Vibration while turning

Heres one that noone can figure out -

When i accelerate from a stop, the car shudders. It is partucularly bad when you are turning and acceleration from a stop. There is no noise, just a very harsh vibration. I took it to the tranny place where the transmission is still under warrenty, and they told me that there is nothing wrong with the transmission. Do you have any clue as to what my problem may be?

well, mine is doing that, but it needs outher CV joints and a tranny mount. The shake while turning is almost definitly the CVs.

vibration

Try putting in the two wheel drive fuse under the hood then drive it and see if the vibration goes away.

I am having this exact same problem. Shudder/vibration coming from transmission area, under center console. Mostly when accelerating normally from a stop. Even worse when turning while accelerating from a stop. Anyone figure out what it is????? Thanks

WOW! Old thread! It is sticking awd transfer clutches. The correct way to fix it would be to replace the transfer clutches. The cheap/easy way (how we did it at the subaru dealer) is to get a bottle of limited slip differental additive and pour it into the transmission (atf). It will fix it immediately, but could shorten the life of your transmission.

That is what i was guessing it was, after searching through threads on this site. I tried a bottle of the lsd additive and it seemed to solve the problem for a few days, but now it is back. It was a small bottle(4oz) of generic brand stuff, so maybe i'll try another bottle of something better quality if i can find it. Thanks for the help.

How would that possibly shorten the life of the tranny?

The Limited Slip additive causes the friction material in the clutches to have... not as much friction, so they'll be more prone to slipping, thus causing more heat and possibly wearing out the clutch packs prematurely. This being said, I'd still use this method. I've never actually seen a transmission go bad from this, and we did this probably once a week at the subaru dealer.

I'm sold!!!

Do you have a suggested brand and quantity?

I see in evanmerz's post that 4 oz. of generic stuff didn't cut it.

Thanks,
Dan

I think they all come in 4 oz bottles. I got mine at schucks. Im going to look at napa to see if they have something different. I think i remember someone saying they got theirs at a gm dealership. I cant think of the brand name.

When I bought mine I noticed two different kinds: one was petroleum based and one mineral. The petroleum said very clearly "do not mix with atf" the mineral based had no warning.

ATF is mineral based so buy the mineral based friction modifier.

Question Front vibrates when

Ok I just got back my svx back with a brand new Tranny in it, going straight works great when starting off it vibretes when turning either way, I put the awd fuse in and it went away, took it back they said all ok with it, this is with out the fuse in, They said it should clear up after a few miles was put on it, to me it sounds like something just is not right in the AWD setup, Anyone got a note on this, I just don't want to put words out there without knowing for sure, or close to it, It is under warranty but i don't like break downs, This is what stop me from traveling with it.
Thanks
Art

From what i hear, it takes a while for a new tranny and rear diff to get used to each other. One remedy is to do a bunch of tight figure-8s in a parking lot. This will help them get to know eachother a little faster. Mechanically, i dont really understand why this would work, but supposedly it has worked for a lot of people. Maybe give it a try. ?
