SVX and WRX use same oil filter?

i sent my brother to the auto parts store to buy oil filters for the SVX and WRX so we could do oil changes. he came back from the store with two identical filters.. did he screw up or are they just close enough that aftermarket manufacturers use the same filter for both cars? TIA

I was talking to the dealer and they said the 4 cylinders, and the 6 cylinders have diffrent oil filters. I know that the normaly asperated 4cylinders have diffrent oil filters than ours, i compared them, the tops were diffrent. I forgot which one, but the cirles on the top were at angles one and flat on the other.

I can't answer your question, but it is possible the SVX and WRX use the same oil filter. It's even possible that, even though they use the same filter, Subaru dealers stock them under two separate part numbers. I've found other small parts which are interchangeable with Legacys and Imprezas, but listed under a different part number for the SVX. They even charge more for the SVX part number. ****ers.

There are two oil filters that look physically identical. The '15208AA060' and the 'SOA5165109.' the 15208AA060 has 141 square inches of filtration surface. The SOA5165109 has 201 square inches of filtration surface. The 15208AA060 is designed for use with the H-4 engines, where the SOA5165109 is designed for use with the H-6 engines.

I highly recommend that you DON'T use an "auto parts store" oil filter on your SVX. Get it from the dealership.

Mike's right. A lot of after market companies will list the same filter for the Legacy, Impreza, Forester and SVX because they will fit.....but that's not a good enough reason! The SOA5165109 has more filter inside and does a better job filtering the larger displacment of the 3.3.

Just because it fits doesn't mean it will work correctly!!

My dealer did this to me at one time.

They put a WRX oil filter on as opposed to a SVX. You need to get the SVX filter even though it may fit!!

Darn, you are fast... And quite informed. As a side note, IF an aftermarket filter needs to be used, use a K&N oil filter. On the other hand, dont use a plain jane FRAM.

I've been using the Fram PH3593A for a while but will be switching to a K&N HP-1004 next oil change.

Is purolator still making subaru's filters? Last I heard the purolator pure one was identical to the oem filter.

I just removed factory filter from outback and it looks identical to the Purolator "L14454" series. The color is obviously different, but all small details are so strikingly similar. I am tempted to cut it open and compare internals....

I am comparing the 2 oems for a SVX and a 1 gen legacy, or h4. They both are the same size, but the top to the SVX one were the 8 holes are are ata a diffrent angle than the ones for the h4. The 8 holes on the h4 are on metal the points, up (if on engine toward the top of the eingine) at around a 20 deggres while the SVX one points down (if on engine tword the ground) at about -5 deggres.

Was having a discussion today about oil filters. It made me decide to bump this thread to the top.
