Impreza RS Rear Diff ?

So, I'm not having much luck finding a 4:11 rear diff from an early Legacy. The salvage yard I used for all my other parts does not sell the rear diffs from older Legacies it seems...and other yards around here are quite ridiculous at over $150 for a high mileage diff.

Well, the yard I used for my other parts has a diff from a '99 Impreza RS which should be 4:11 ratio and LSD??

My question is, would this diff be a direct swap on the SVX since it is a LSD? If not, would the ring and pinion be able to be swapped into my SVX LSD just like the Legacies?

Thanks

First $150 is not bad for a rear diff. That is what I paid for a 96 Impreza 4.11 one. It was not a LSD.
Second I do not know if the splines are the same as the SVX or not, but I changed the ring and pinion over to my SVX housing. It was not that hard.

Well, I should have mentioned the 70K mile '99 RS unit was $100. Not to mention I had a look at it and it looked new....compared to carriers I've seen at other yards.

HELP

ANYONE?

I guess I need to know if the Impreza RS Diff has axle stubs like the SVX diff or if it is like the Legacy Diff and the axles go into the Diff. Also...if it will bolt up to my SVX.

I'm using a 02 impreza rear diff for my 5 speed swap, and the rear diff looks identical to the one from the SVX(except the dirt)
I hope this helps with your axle stubs question. Darren

my legacy diff that i got for core had stubs... not holes...

honestly i believe that all subarus use stub axles (around 30 bux if your missing one)

the impreza carrier should work, but when you get there just ask how many splines the stubs have

If I'm not mistaken, the RS should have 4.44's, so be sure before you get it, pull the cover and count the gears, if it doesn't have a ID plate on it.

And one the stub issue, I've got a 4.11 rear diff out of a 97 Legacy Outback, and it doesn't have stubs, the axles are more like the SVX(fixed stubs), but the same on both sides (it's not a LSD)...so not all Subarus use the stubs.

2.5RS 5 speed has 4.11 ratio.

2.5RS auto has 4.444

LSD was only available on the 2000 and 2001 cars.

The 1999 2.5RS did NOT have an LSD rear.
