on the tv news last night, there was a piece on the EAA wisconsin fly-in. picture a sea of airplanes, each with tent pitched beside it. i sort of envision the same thing @ hood river, except with svxi and other assorted subari instead of the aircraft!!

OOOKAAAAY you guys talked me into this one!
I had such a great time at the Dabob meet that I just can't turn this one down. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you there and exactly which of Earl's 7 he'll bring. I agree that the Blue one is the most modified and had a great chance of taking a trophey. I would be excited to hear that we can get a group to park/camp together at this meet. I may even try to take that friday off and get up there early. Perhaps we find a place to detail our cars before the actuall show (brownbear or spray'n'wash type places) I think that would be fun too. Anyways, just some ideas. I'm really looking forward to shootin the breeze w/ all of you next time in Oregon!

We've come up with our classes for the Show. They will divide Soobs into makes. There will be no "modded" or stock class. Anything goes.
Lack of funds were the big reason, but we also remember back to WCSS3 that had a bone stock DL brat take the brat class over a highly modified lifted monster brat.There are first and second prize to covet. There are also "Best Street" "Best Off Road" and "Best in Show" that will include all entries.

Which to bring, which to bring? I was thinking of the Blue one, but I also was thinking of my Barcelona Red one. Both are 94s, but then there is the 95 .....

I don't think it is that big of a deal. You already know all of your competition, unless Eric and the guys have some SVX driving buddy that is outside of NWSVX.
 I'd say the red one may win in a contest between the two (even though I don't like red that much) because it is in near mint shape and the mods, while still quite a few, are more "classy". But the blue one gets bonus points since the couple extra mods it has over the red one are significant and represent the ingenuity of the SVX owner community since the corporate aftermarket shuns us. (the 5 speed tranny, front bumper, and c/f hood all were orginally thought up and produced by just regular SVX owners since there was no other source) So yeah, it is a tough call indeed. Red one for over all show quality and good example of the SVX, Blue one for representing the spirit of the small but scrappy SVX community. Now everyone thinks Earl has this one in the bag (since I can't attend now  ).But enter the dark horse, Mychailo. (And Mychailo, if you are reading this, make up some kind of show-car literature to put on your car that summarizes this ) He has slowly been building up his SVX also, over there in the Far East. He ducks his head in once a year at Dabob, and then we don't see him again and he goes back to work modding his car. Slowly and quietly, a bit at a time, his car has nearly caught up to Earl's blue one in modifications.  The catch here is that Mychailo personally oversaw each of his mods, and some of them he even developed himself to the point where he can sell them to the rest of us. All through some incredibly painstaking engineering processes and calculations. (did anyone see him at Dabob going around measuring everyone's engine angles to make sure his 5 speed didn't change the tilt of his engine??) Whereas Earl bought his two show picks fully modded and as they are today, Mychailo has spent years putting his together and doing all the brain work and wallet flexing himself. Interesting indeed........ heh heh heh Too bad I can't come, it would have made the judges jobs so much easier. Of course I guess there still would have been a tight race for second.

Bad News
I seem to have the crappiest luck with this car. Lastnight while sleeping at my girlfriends house I woke up to the neihbors talking about what a horrible thing had just happened and how they couldnt understand why anyone would do this. Long story short: my car was one of 3 to be brutally vandalized. These chicken sh!t vandals climbed onto the roof of the apt complex, removed some tar paper w/ course gravel and threw them down onto the cars. Then, on thier way out, they did some "body work" to just about every panel on the car w/ the roofing material that they removed. Even the rear windshield and side windows are scratched severely. The point of all this? I have no idea. Just some people who thought it would be cool to mess up a few cars.
 Anyways, I don't think I'm going to be attending the OR rally, I'm kind of angry/depressed about not being able to show my subie. I'm sort of concidering going still but it turns out a few of my friends are going camping that weekend so I think I might join them. I'm sorry to bail but I just can't see myself brining her all primer'd up and waiting for new paint. The first thing I'll be doing at school tomorrow is taking her over to autobody to have the damage assesed. The car will be repainted in the future, I just have no idea when. I enjoy these meets so much that I will attend most future events anyways. I am so sorry to hear about your car. That is a horrible thing to have happen. I can not ever understand why people do things like that. The problem is that they never seem to get caught. If they do, they can't understand why someone is sooooo upset. Go figure. Keep us informed of your progress and let us know if we can help anyway. Good luck.
