Can I run without that 3rd Cat?
Well the exhaust is showing signs of its 12 years of age. Having spent an hour in my friends pit looking up at the exhaust system we concluded I either replace both right and left pipes (the ones with the initial cats in - at a MASSIVE cost) or if the car would run OK wihout the 3rd central cat we coud cut out the perished section of front pipes and flanges and manufacture pipework to bypass the 3rd cat with our own 2 into 1 pipework.
Thing is, does anyone have experience of this plan and know how the emissions are affected, given the MOT test here in the UK inspects the eshaust gases. Thanks for your help in advance! Paul. |

Suck it and see.

I don't think there is a way of knowing without actually trying it. My car runs very clean with the three cats. Any main dealer will be able to put an analyser up the back pipes and tell you if you will pass emissions testing. Assuming you do this, and the results come back as clean as I would imagine, I strongly suspect it will be clean enough to pass muster if your two main cats are good to go. Do a mail or a PM to Sonar. He has taken out the centre section. He may be able to tell you what figures the car pulls with only two cats. Joe
