Check out what i found.

Was reading Automobile magazine, and noticed an add for model cars. (dont get your hopes up...read on)

So i go to their website, and put SVX in to the search.

And i come up with this:
http://www.ewa1.com/cgi-bin/sshp/sho...d%3E&storeid=1

If anyone is in to collecting this stuff, here's a definate must-have, and for a pretty cheap price.

<thinks> Maybe i should buy a bunch, and eBay then for twice the price...buahahah </thinks>

Good Find.

I used to get that magazine every week when I was a teenager.

Next time we visit my parent's (probably Christmas) I'm going to look through the pile and see if I've got that one. If I do then I'll scan the article and post it here.

Phil.

How's this for thread archeology?

I found that magazine and a couple of others which I don't think have been posted before.

Finally, from 21 Feb 1990, spy shots of a LHD prototype with US-style turn signals testing in Death Valley.

I find it very interesting that in the third article it says Subaru was predicting sales of 10,000 SVXs a year in the US.

Of course, if the automotive press was any indication, the car was a smash hit.

A good bit of digging Phil.

I did notice that one of the tests(by John McCormick) showed pictures of the US model, but the text talked of the VTD (as a 60/40 front rear torque split, doh,got it back to front), but in the road test, they talk about understeer. I think a lot of the tests that we read, were not actually done on the Euro version, but taken from the US Road & Track testing. From what I have read they did the same, talked of the VTD Euro version but drove the US version.

Did any mag actually road test a Euro version?. There should be a bit of difference in the handling, no understeer, and the quicker acceleration, with the lower diff that we have.

Harvey.

You're right Harvey.

I think a lot of what's in the magazine articles is lifted from Subaru's promotional material. Sometimes I wonder if they've actually even driven it themselves. I've seen a few road tests where they test a RHD car, but the engine photo has the brake servo on the wrong side (indicating the photo is of a LHD car).

I also have the road test that Autocar did when the SVX was launched in the UK. I think they actually tested it properly that time. I uploaded it somewhere a long time ago, but I can't remember whether it was here or one of the yahoo clubs. It's entitled "Better than a Jaguar XJS". The actual car they tested was at our UK meet two years ago, it's now owned by ChrisSVX.

The second article said "a product that will sell, come **** or high water."

lol.. funny about the sales... usually magazines get different cars to test drive than they do to picture... happens all the time. get a show quality car to photograph, then they get one that maybe has a painting screwup or something to drive, and beat the crap out of.

If you can dig that test up, I would like to see it. When the tester talks about understeer, and a 7.6 sec for the 0 to 100 k, you know it was not a VTD equipped version he was testing.

Harvey.
