I don't think it's actually an acronym. I think that the R&T Guide claims that it stands for 'Special Vehicle, Experimental,' but my guess is that marketing came up with that answer because it sounded better than, 'SVX' just sounds cool.'

'RSX' and 'NSX' don't stand for anything, either. Neither does 'Windows CE.' Sometimes letters are just put together because they sound cool to say or suggest something to the person who reads or says them.

I was told by 'svxfiles' (who was selling Subarus long before the SVX came out), it stands for Safety Vehicle (E)xperimental.

I feel pretty safe driving mine, and I put 450 miles a week on her.

From "Where The Suckers Moon"...The life and death of an advertising campaign. "Named SVX, For Specialty Experimental Vehicle, the vehicle was the ultimate expression of Fuji's (and S.O.A.'s) create-a-niche philosophy."

I have heard (S)ubaru (V)ehicle e(X)perimental as well as Subaru Vehicle X. One of the was R&T the other is by someone else.

There is a good way to resolve it. Call up SOA and ask. If SOA can't answer the question, call FHI.

safety vehicle experimental, was, belive it or not a let down to the capista, the vehicle promised us, by subaru, a 12 cylender, 600 hp carbon fibre 200mph beauty, with awd, aws, said to cost $500,000 in 1990 dollars. as i remember, it was a street-legal group c racer. in retrospect, the svx is a working mans supercar, otherwise, like the 1966 GT40, it would have remained, an awsome unatainable dream.

Special Vehicle eXperiment is what i have always recalled. XT stands for what? SVX and WRX seem to follow the same patern, as well as the truck they made (Subaru Truck Experiment i believe it was) STX. Any other acronyms you can think of? Im sure we are all just barking up a tree, they pull them out of their ass!! There is no theory to subarus madness....

MS themselves said, when CE came out, that 'CE' didn't stant for anything. They said that the letters 'suggested a compact, portable version' of Windows.

People simply assumed that it stood for 'Compact Edition.'

Now, I haven't looked it up recently, but it is possible that MS eventually adopted 'Compact Edition.' But, in '97 when I bought my first CE device, it didn't stand for anything.
