500 HP SVX at Subaru Training Center?

I just got off the phone with someone who told me that at the Subaru Training Center (where they send people to become Subaru Master Techs), there is a 500 HP NA SVX. I specifically asked if it was NA, and I asked him several times if it really had 500 HP. I also asked if it had been bored/stroked. The guy didn't know for sure, but he said that Subaru has a fondness for stroking their project motors. Needless-to-say, I was both floored and skeptical when I heard this. Apparently, it has been converted over to a 5-speed with a standard WRX tranny. The guy also said that the EG33 motor was apparently designed by Porsche, and built by Subaru.

Anyone heard anything about this? If the training center is in Japan, could this be the STi SVX that Paddlenz recently mentioned?

This guy is full of crap. First off, the H6 wasn't designed by porsche. Secondly, in order to get 500hp out of a naturally aspirated engine.... hrm. I'll be back with the technical crap in a few minutes.

Actually, just read this:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...hlight=fyre4ce

You cannot be making 500hp N/A out of 3.3 liters.

Interesting. The guy seemed quite sure the car existed. He relayed several of my questions to a guy near him, and that guy was purported to be a Subaru Master Tech. I heard the guy answering the questions. Anyhow, so much for 500 NA HP.

That doesnt mean that the car doesnt exist, just that maybe they are exagerating the specs abit... I would follow up...

Are you making the claim that it is impossible to get 500hp out of any NA 3.3L engine, or just the EG33?

if it was stroked it wouldn't be 3.3L anymore, however i doubt that you could get 500hp without forced induction - at least not from a 6 cylinder.

If you believe basic theory behind the MEP, then 500 HP from a NA 3.3L motor would require a redline of 11,000 rpm. Interestingly, the 350Z is 3.5L and makes 287 HP at 6200 rpm. That's a MEP of 13.2. The Honda V6 Accord motor is 3.0L and makes 240 HP at 6250 rpm. That's a MEP of 12.8. These are both near the maximum values that frye4ce calculates. Now for comparison, the SVX 3.3L motor makes 230 HP at 5400 rpm. That's a MEP of 12.9. It may make less HP than the smaller Accord motor, but because peak HP is at 5400 rpm instead of ~6200 rpm, its "working" MEP is slightly better than the Accord V6 motor. Basically, the 1992 SVX motor has a MEP that's right up there with the currrent crop of highly tuned stock high performance NA motors. Pretty impressive IMHO. Anyhow, I diverge from the 500 NA HP claim.

Now WITH a turbo 500hp would be believable, as the rally team gets over 400 hp out of a 2.0-4 cylinder…at that rate the 3.3 could put out about 660hp

If peak HP occurs at 6500 rpm, then about 300 NA HP is the max according to the MEP theory.
