Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
I'm not sure, I happened to have some from the computer repair tool bag at work that I used, but if I didn't have that I probably would go to Radio Shack and ask the clerk to recommend one for electronics.

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
Some standard rosin core solder should work just fine.

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
Well that didn't work. I removed the MAF, opened it up, resoldered the top connections on the MAF, inspected the ones under the copper plate which looked fine and closed it back up and reinstalled it.
Now it seems to run even worse. I can't really even make it around my cul de sac without it shutting off ten times. Also this morning I cleaned the throttle body and it didn't really have any effect, so that probably isn't the problem. Any other ideas what this could be? Does it still sound like an MAF problem or something else? Again the symptoms are that the car stalls when ever at idle it seems. If I turn it on and floor it I can make it a ways, but as soon as I have to make a turn or slow down it stalls. And it seems to just keep getting worse. Maybe IACV?

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
I am pretty sure that I have read that if your MAF is bad you can unplug the connector and car will run better. I searched around for that post but couldn't find it. Can anyone verify that?
Also, about it running worse after the resolder you may want to redo it, you may have used too much or just not soldered well. I am told less is more when soldering, enough to make the connection but not too much. Check out this page has a good video about hot to solder: http://www.ladyada.net/learn/soldering/thm.html

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
I ordered a new MAF today. Hopefully that will fix the problem. Different things I did to the MAF seemed to make the situation better or worse so it seems the problem must be related to it. Cross your fingers for me.

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
Hi, remove the Sensor Element in the MAF and soak the business end in vinegar overnight, rinse in water, carefully dry and re-install. This cleared the problem on mine, and it hasn't come back in 5 years. There used to be a "How to" on this.

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
Soak the entire MAF assembly or remove the red part and soak that? It seems like if you did the whole assembly it would mess it up.

Re: 92 Stalls and immediately restarts
Okay so I got a new MAF and now it no longer stalls out. I guess that was that problem.
