Re: custom svx subbox

I'd be interested in a small, simple box for an 8-inch sub that fits in the trunk against the back seat and isn't super heavy. But the prices you've posted in the past have been a bit much to me. I do however have a ton of parts, maybe we could work something out.

possibly, to be honest more than half that price in the past were just cost of materials then the time to make it or if the curing screws up i'm barely covered its more of a favor than making money

Do some research on tonewoods. Instead of mdf, you would be better off using something like birch for the soundboard. Not sure what wood will be to your liking, especially for a sub, but with speaker cabinets the wood the soundboard is made of has a huge impact on tone.

could i get it at lowes or home depot? mdf is relatively inexpensive, and i know lowes sells it.

Re: custom svx subbox

You should not need more than a few board feet at most. It will be cheap. You can get birch at loews and home depot, but like I said, do some research for low end tone woods. I built a 2x15 bass cabinet one time with birch. It sounded amazing.

Re: custom svx subbox

Gamesy, sorry for the thread hijack. B4you, PM me if you have more questions. To quickly answer your last, MDF is much heavier. Since it is basically compressed sawdust, it is much more dense than birch.
