Unhappy TOWED AWAY Trans Fluid

5:45 this morning foggy and dark the transmission felt like it went to neutral then back to drive, a few seconds later i'm at a red light and smoke is coming from the car. Had to get the car out of that intersection, pulled off the road and we are REALLY smoking now. It's totally dark and foggy to boot and of course there is not a flashlight in the car (note to self put a flashlight of some sort in all vehicles). Opened the hood couldn't tell where the smoke was coming from. By the time the tow truck arrived i could see trans fluid on the ground. Waiting for the bad news right now.
Anybody want to guess what happened. Transmission line burst? The puddle was under the front of the vehicle

Sounds like your power steering line burst. Was it difficult for you to turn the wheel when you pulled over to the side?

sounds like you may have lost a tranny line.... I would look at the bright side and hope that maybe it was something stupid and nothing got damaged

I don't think it was the power steering hose because the steering was fine. Tom i'm hoping just a trans line can be replaced and i'm back on the road.....

The same thing happened to me a month back. One of the wormgear clamps failed and the trans cooler line popped off. Another clamp and a gallon of fluid later, everything was great

You may want to take the chance to upgrade to Genuine Subaru Clamps.

The same night a worm almost killed my tranny, a guy on another subaru board lost the engine on his XT6 due to a failing worm clamp leading to his engine oil cooler

of you had a clamp fail goto subaru and get the original clamps as they dont have a tendency to fail as much also make sure the lines to the rad cooler are in good shape hope your tranny is still ok

ok that doesn't count phil is a cheap ass, and it was a harbor freight hose clamp, come on. although i'm not gonna argue that the band styles are less likly to fail.
how ever i dislike the band style because i cut through my radiator hose once using one of them.

So far trans seems to be okay and shifting fine. Hopefully it remains that way. Drove it home yesterday and to work today.......
