I have been using the Purolator L30165 from the 1983-1995 Porsche 944. Its 66% bigger than the L14459 our cars call for, has the anti-drain and bypass valves and more surface area for better cooling.

Napa and Pepboys are where I get my stuff from. So far the SVX has their gear oil and engine oil. Going to swap out to their ATF in a little bit.

Filters

Hi everyone, All the bad filters that Subaru has had to recall in the last few years have been made by "WIX". I guess they were low bidder. My friend who was the service manager at Ann Arbor Subaro for 21 years and now has his own shop told me recently that he was able to track down the OEM filter guy for Subaru in Japan and order the JDM filters through his parts supplier. Of course the filters don't say Subaru but they are the same filters. Even though he is an independent shop he still used Subaru Filters. Now he can offer the best and at a good price for himself and his customers. Sometimes you can save a little money hear and there but I would not bother trying to save a little on filters or oil. What would you replace your blood with. No you can't use booze. Take care, BOBB

Have you noticed any difference so far? What is the very primary benefits to switch it to use the bigger filter? Filter better keep the engine cleaner? Keep the engine temp lower? How much %? But more fuel burn when warming up?

If we stick with the good brand filter along with good quality oil, do oil changes every 3000miles. How much would we lose if we don't use bigger oil filter? I know it won't cost alot more..... Just a funny thought, it that possible for the bigger oil filter to get hit if you go over some high bump or bumpy roads too fast .

How often (or not) one changes the oil and filter, and how one taxes the engine, has way, way more to do with the engine's longevity than the brand of oil filter used.

Talking

will the porsche filter fit with the plastic skid plate on? I was thinking of purchasing an oil filter adapter plate for the WRX that has outlets for an oil cooler and an outlet for an oil temperture and oil presure gauge but I wasn't sure that the filter diameters were the same. Appears that they are the same and the adaptor plate will fit.

There is no problem with clearance. I have had the filter replaced three times and I always use the plastic skid plate; plenty of room.

The first two times I changed the filter, I took the skid plate off to do it. The last time I just reached up behind it and undid it. being longer makes it easier to get to.

The filter actually looks like it belongs there. The stock filter looks pitifully small in relation to the size of the engine.

I did some searches for these two filters and found that the Puroaltor 14459 is also the correct filter for the following motorcycles:

Honda CB700SC Nighthawk 1984-86
Honda CB700SC Nighthawk S 1984-86
Honda VF1000F, 1000R Interceptor
Honda VF1100A Magna 1983-86
Honda VF1100C Magna to 1986
Honda VF1100C Shadow to 1988
Honda VF1100S Sabre 1984-85
Honda VF400 FD 1983
Honda VF500C & F Magna & Interceptor to 1986
Honda VF500C Magna 1984-85
Honda VF500F Interceptor 1984-86
Honda VF700C Interceptor 1984-87
Honda VF700C Magna 1984-87
Honda VF700C Sabre 1984-85
Honda VF700F & S Interceptor/Sabre to 1985
Honda VF700F Interceptor 1984-85
Honda VF750C Magna 1982-83
Honda VF750C Magna 1988
Honda VF750F Interceptor 1983-84
Honda VF750S Sabre 1982-83 I own an '83!
Honda VFR700C & 750C Magna 1984-87
Honda VFR700F Interceptor 1986-87
Honda VFR700F, F2 Interceptor 1986-87
Honda VFR750F Interceptor 1986
Honda VT1100C Shadow 1985-88
Honda VT500C & FT Ascot & Shadow to 1986
Honda VT700C Shadow 1984-87
Honda VT750 Shadow 1983
Honda VT800 Shadow 1988
Kawasaki EN450 & 454LTD 1985-90
Kawasaki EX500 1987-89
Kawasaki VN700 Vulcan 1985
Kawasaki VN750 Vulcan 1986-93

So my 3300cc SVX engine uses the same filter as my 750cc Honda Sabre?

I think it's time to upgrade to Porsche parts!!!

Dan
