Thumbs up Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Yes, way off topic, but I saw the first trailer for the upcoming movie (May 05?). Looked like it might be fun, but I'm guessing you had to like the original.

I used to know that world backwards and forwards, and still have somewhere the LP's, the original 12 half hour radio show tapes, the packaged CD of all 12 radio shows, the VHS tape of the first six TV episodes, heck, way too much for my age I guess.

Zaphod Beeblebrox for President. You remember Zaphod, past president of the galaxy, ex-confidence trickster, two heads, three arms, and according to Excentra Gulumbits, the tripple breasted ***** from Eroticon 6, he's the best bang since the big one.

I'll look at this tomorrow and be embarrased. Ah, well.

Bruce

Yeah!! I remember that! There was also a strategy style Hitchhiker's guide video game way back in the Apple II and IIC days. The type where you typed in what you wanted to do: Open door.... door is locked! Use key.... door opened! A robot is there with peanuts. take peanuts.. robot kills you.. game over.

What was his name? The robot with that terrible pain in all the diodes down his left side.... ahhhh man! What was his name?? He was a character!!

I gotta go see that movie. I wish I still had that game. It came out about the same time Apple introduced the IIC. I don't even think anyone was making IBM clones at that time.

Thanks for bringing back great memories!!

The quality is good but since I've never read the books or had any other exposure I have nothing to compare to.

Check out http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocom.php they have the original game online.

The trilogy was actually a trilogy for a while and was so established as a trilogy that he continued to refer to it as a trilogy even when the fourth and fifth books were written. The were one or two short stories added in the later omnibus editions.

My favorite thing about the books was Adams' brilliant was of stating the profound, "The large yellow ship hung in the sky in exactly the same way that bricks don't."

So, what's the meaning of life? I love the books. I too have all of them. Books, the radio shows, 6 TV episodes etc etc.

Let's see the new one and see if it it any different to the book.
