Headlight HARNESSES...

I had SilverStar bulbs in my lowbeam headlights for about one year...before (prematurely) burning out.....I replaced the burned out SilverStars with the original bulbs that I saved...which work to this day! [about another year later!].........I recently was told that the premature failure may have been due to inadequate harness wire size (?).........Also, the quality.... or more appropriately.....intensity of the SilverStars was not noticeably better than the stock bulbs! I was told this ALSO may be a result of the inadequate stock harness wiring (?)....

I remember reading something about a headlight harness mod....possibly for this application... Let me know what you think ....and whether or not this belongs here ...or in MODS site(?)

THANKS for your help!

Do I want to get into this discussion again?

Uh... when you run a higher wattage bulb, you'll need a thicker set of wires. Otherwise, the wires heat up and melt. If you have the same wattage, and if the blubs fail, it's just crappy bulbs.

Your best option would be to run some fused/relayed power from the battery directly to the headlamps using a lower gauge gauge wire and a heavy-duty connector.

GAUGE this....

SOOOOOOooooooo......

LWIN...... Are the Silver Stars higher wattage than stock bulbs ?.....How much difference (in wattage) is enough to require "thicker" wire (harnesses) ?......

MIKE...... How could the higher wattage bulbs require a "SMALLER GAUGE WIRE" ?

If I'm treading on previous ground, gentlemen, please refer me to the old threads......Otherwise, please expand your comments to include the best possible approach to switching from stock bulbs ...to these SilverStar bulbs, which are so popular...

THANKS for your time...and wisdom...

P.S. So is it true that the stock harness with these SilverStar bulbs .....would be likely to shine DIM and FAIL PREMATURELY ?
