Go buy a piece of sheet rubber (oil resisting - neoprene or
buna-N) in a hardware or supply store, Cut it out as a doughnut and put it in the trunk.

It's the body that's cracked after all, not really what I wanted to hear.

I decided to buy most of the parts that I need from Strictly Subaru, so I'll be driving up I-5 sometime in the next week or two. That means I don't need to go to any junkyards, but if someone else plans on going I'd like to tag along.

The problem with wrecking yards is there are only a few of them that are cool with letting you go out and actually look at the cars.

Probably for mainly for insurance reasons, maybe a little for theft prevention too?

It's fine if you know you need a certain part and you can call them and have them pull it for you and have it ready at the counter, but sometimes it is fun to just go out and scavenge the car for the little things you'd like to have a spare of. Or need but never would have thought you needed. Or just to scope out the car so you can let others know what it has available. There have been a couple of those friendly yards in the past, but I think Earl and I picked them dry.
