140 at 140

So I was cruising off to work today on this nice stretch of clean empty open highway. I look down at my gas guage to check to see how much was in there, and then took a quick look at my odomerter. The poor beast was just about to click over 140k miles. So I figured why not celebrate. So I ripped her down the highway up to 140mph just as she rolled over 140k.

Just have to hope she is going to do that extra 10mph when she hits 150k.

I think you've just created a new tradition. Sorry, Doug, you cant participate in this one.

This was my tradition until I moved to MI - there are no roads here that I feel safe doing 100+ on. :P

I don't know how they do things in your backcountry neck of the woods, but over here, we dont even bother arresting speeders who are exceeding 100 mph. We just beat you down with our clubs, hoping to beat some sense into you.

There are many people who do not belong on the road, and you my friend, are one of them. Fortunately, life has a way of purging certain folks from this Earth; unfortunately, certain folks sometimes end up taking innocents down with them.

I've seen enough idiots splattered on the road due to their stupid wreckless actions. You should definitely think about what you do before you do it next time. We go through many hours of driver training, and anyone with experience at those speeds knows how incredibly fragile a vehicle is at that point. All it takes is one slick point on the road, one flat tire, one squirrel (yes you heard me) or one uneven patch in the pavement and then it's all over.

I'm not really trying to scold you so much as let the other readers know that they really should not attempt stunts like that. There are many impressionable minds out there, and they deserve to know the dangers.

Again, I'm not trying to start a flame war here, so don't get flippant from something some new guy like me says.

Take care all!

Hrm....this looks like a fun new guy!

That post was the biggest load of crap I've seen on these boards in a LONG time. Punish......er....i mean Hangman, please do not post stuff about beating people up or anything. You are not a cop, so dont say "we dont arrest people" because you dont arrest anyone.

We mean, you've already been shunned from these boards once, why do you insist on coming back, only to do the exact same thing that you did before?

Cool

Hey, Mr. Hangman/punisher, I'd like to borrow some of your "torch 'n sickle" crowd guys to do in a few tailgaters as well. Where'd you say you're from, stranger?

Ron.

I don't want to upset you, but I couldn't disagree with you more.
First reason being that he said he was on an open road. If traffic in this situation is lite, the chances of a wreck involving another driver are slim. And if he wants to potentially risk his own life, I say go for it. I could just as well go through life and not eat red meat, not drink, and bla bla bla, but without a few risks now and then, life probably wouldn't be worth living.
There's a reason why most people drive faster than average cars. It's to have a little fun with them. With your kind of thinking, why not drive a metro or civic?
You are correct, many people don't belong on the road, including daudlers doing 20 MPH under the speed limit, TAIL_GATERS, TAIL_GATERS, drunk drivers, TAIL_GATERS, and people who change lanes without looking, llikely being more dangerous than excessive speeders who are alert.
I've taken many trips across several states, often traveling in excess of 100 MPH. The only time I've even come close to an accident is when encountering moronic drivers such as what I've just mentioned. Thankfully, i'm always alert enough to compensate for other's stupidity. And blowouts are always a risk we take when driving our cars. A blowout at 75 can be just as deadly as one at 140.
Seriously, you don't need special training to drive at fast speeds, you just need to be unlike most people, and that is aware of what is going on around you. With all due respect to you sir, people like you need to find the f**king gas and quit b*tching.

Wow

I guess he'd really be upset with me. He might even have a coronary! I took my Trooper out for a run today on a deserted road... 110mph with 275-70-16 Scorpion AT tires, 2" lift. Of course I also have poly sway bar bushings, adjustable shocks, and upgraded front and rear springs... I don't suggest this on any old road.

HangMansJoke,

You obviously have never driven in Wyoming, Nevada or other of the great wide open western states. When you don't see another sign of life for miles & miles, sometimes ya just have to let it go for the right peg.
