Windshield Swap Idea
I have a 92 LSL. Is it true that the L models didn't have the titanium coating? Right now my windshield is cracked pretty badly, so I need to get it replaced, and if the L model lacks that coating, I'd rather get one of those, just because my radar detector would work better, and my GPS would actually work.
Does anyone know? - Rob |

The L model has a regular windshield like any other car. My radar detector works, as does my EZ-Pass and garage door opener etc etc.
Rob- How is it you got away with having a cracked windshield? Do you guys not have safety inspection there? Mike |

great post. i need a windshield for the claret pretty badly; they sand the roads here in the winter. i was going to have to file an insurance claim to replace it. and in colorado, we do not have safety inspections either; the state cares more about emissions.

When I purchased the car, it was fine. Then I was driving on the hwy and some big construction monstrosity truck kicked a big rock or bolt or something and it was this huge "SMACK" noise, I almost thought someone had shot at me, and it nailed my windshield dead center, right above the rear view mirror. So I got it 'filled' via autoglass specialists, but now the crack is over 2ft long and goes all the way to the passenger side.
So whats hte part number for the L model windshield? I'd rather just have a normal windshield, I don't see hte point of titanium in it anyway. - Rob |

Hmm, so my windshield has no titanium? I guess my radar detector just sucks then.

1. there is no free lunch. i don't know what florida requires, but it may well be that it is required that every policy be written with windshield coverage. if so, trust me, somewhere in the premium there's a charge for it.
2. it isn't that the state "cares more about emissions", it; sbecause the federal government mandated emissions testing. this expensive program exists even though i have never seen any documentation of what it accomplishes (i suspect damn little). emission problams have decreased since inspections, but primarely because older cars are no longer on the road. 3. some states, noteably new jersey, rwequire safty inspections. again, i wonder about the cost verus the benefits, and again i have never seen documentatins about lesser accidents (most of which are driver related, not defectrive equipment), especially comparing states with similar demographics that have these tests with stats on states that don't. i'm a damn libertarian anyway, i try to leave the emissions testing facility withjout accepting my copy of the results. but they mail it to me anyway. |

re: georgia still doesn't
georgia still doesn't. as long as the vehicle passes emissions the car is considered road worthy.
i hear the windshield costs $1200 new and about $600 for a used one . |

Is that a fact that the L does not have the titanium coated windshield that the LS-L has?
