Thanks to the more experienced folks for chiming in. I had oil pooling on top of the motor + a code for a bad knock sensor, at ~150K miles on my car. Both were cracked. I assumed their replacement was a given while the intake was off, at least on any motor with 100K+ miles. But maybe that was just my car.
And I didn't know about the IRIS O-ring at all! Oh well, maybe next SVX.

If you have the alternator removed you MIGHT be able to replace it while the intake manifold is still installed on the engine. Be prepared to use words that would have your parents wash out your mouth with soap. It is only four 12mm bolts (outside wrench diameter) and one link to deal with, but what a PITA!

In the above picture the I.R.I.S. valve, (not the IRIS check valve) is next to the can of WD-40, sitting on the paper towels.
Oh, and IF you take off the intake manifold its a GREAT time to change the $3.00 PCV valve. I might have said this before, but, hey, I'm old...

So, when u take IRIS valve out to replace o ring, do you do anything with the valve while it's out? Clean or lube?

Cleaning it would be nice.
As far as lubing it... The shaft pivot points get no lube, other than engine oil vapors from "The Factory". If it is worn to the point of noticable wear, maybe you should just replace the IRIS valve assembley, (but it's like $300.00)

PCV valve was a huge PITA. I think mine was overtightened, or the aluminum fused with the metal, but there was no way I was getting mine off without the manifold off and some major elbow grease. A side benefit: the SVX runs happier with less vacuum leaks after replacing the brittle/cracked hoses . Really long needlenose pliers go a long way in this project.
