Re: HID kits on the cheap.

Hi Laserx-

The AWD LLC crew mounted 5k hid low beams and clear headlite lenses on mine and I love them. Awesome light output and a nice BMW-like crisp top edge on the beam pattern. I feel the dispersion is even better than with the stock lens.

I bought, but haven't mounted yet, hi beam 5k's from DDM for the SVX and hi + low for my Outback. It looks much more difficult to install them on the OB since the bulbs are INSIDE the gasketed full plastic cover on the rear of the headlite assemblies. It looks like I will have to drill 1"+/- holes in that cover to match the round rubber plugs on the DDM wiring. Otherwise one must still drill small holes as well as cut and resplice the wiring and compromise the extremely waterproof DDM harness.

Give the other set to your son if he has an SVX, and you will both be very pleased with the result.

or... Maybe call the company and see if returning them for credit is an option.

Maybe someone on the SVX form from Canada would want to buy them for their car?

Re: HID kits on the cheap.

Thanks kcbsvx, I now know I have two complete sets and that I will not have any problem with my clear lens.
As for the folks at AWD, I have done business with Tom and Eric and have had nothing but the best of service and communication, they're the best.
Now for my extra set...I can use them as bribery with my son. He still has to install my new set of Koni's complete with powder coated cores from AWDa, as well as my clear lens and HID's. Then he has to tackle my MOVIT brakes...but my extra set are his.

Now for my question. I order two 4500k bulb type=9006 35 watt, I paid $59.95 each, with delivery to Canada total price $144.60 and expected to get two lights and two ballasts.
What I got was two boxes with two lights and ballast in each box?? I now have 4 9006 lights and 4 ballasts? Did I get what I was supposed to get or did they double the order? Can I put the extra lights in where my high beams go? Or should I just give the extra set to my son?
Laserx
It is to be assumed that you bought and paid for two kits. Each kit contains two bulbs and ballast.

Both sets will be that same, that is 9006, so they will only fit the outer projector lamps.
Your main beam is a 9005 type and your fog [or is it driving lamp in Canada?] will be an H3 bulb. So the spare set will not suit either of those positions.

Give the spare set to your son.

Joe

Re: HID kits on the cheap.

Thanks, I just did....and he's one happy camper. These are really inexpensive kits. If I like these I'll convert the other two lights as well.

I am sure you will like them.

One point to note; when you buy the set for the main beams the bulbs they send you need to be the correct type. The correct type has the letter "R" in the bulb code. "R" stands for reflector. Our dip beams are projector, and they will have the letter "P".

Our main beams are reflectors, that's why you need the "R" type bulb.

Re: HID kits on the cheap.

By main beams do you mean 9005? And by dip beams do you mean the 9006 bulbs?

Are you asking me, Iceblade?

Yes, that's correct. See post #229. We use H1 and H3 over here so the plug in sockets are different from yours.

In the owner's manual it describes your dips [outer] as 9006/HB4. The main beams are described as 9005/HB3.

Re: HID kits on the cheap.

Well both my son and I now have the H.I.D's installed, took him about 10 minutes. I wish I'd had bought these a long time ago, what a difference. I think I'll now order the H3's fog/driving lights. Looks like you can still find a good deal out there after all.

Looks like this great deal is all over. I just went to the site to order a couple of sets and it is a dead link.
