Window Regulator Problem

On Tuesday night I installed a new P/W regulator assembly I'd just gotten from one of SVXfiles' parts cars. It worked fine all yesterday, but then today I put the window up, heard a loud pop, and it stopped working! It turns out that the cable was loose from the little rectangular plastic clip that connects it to the triangular regulator plate. Not only that, but that plastic clip had broken in 2 places where it connects to the regulator plate. Can I just remove the clip from my old regulator, and snap it in this one? And does anyone have any idea what might have caused it to fail? It seems like it must have been subjected to unusually strong tension.
