Re: California members

Thanks for responding Chris. Paul will no doubt keep you on the list when a full blown SVX meet is on the cards sometime soon.

At the moment and at pretty short notice there will be 5 SVX owners meeting on Saturday. Paul has two SVX Yahoo guys coming from San Diego plus himself is three, Kit is coming from Topango and Graham flying in from England.

They are connecting on to an Alfa Romeo meet that Paul already had in the can, and I'm sure it will be fun, with plenty of SVX stories getting aired!

Smile Re: California members

So I met up with Paul and Graham on Saturday for my first ever car meet. I had a great time crashing the Alpha Romeo party at the Peterson Automotive Museum, and met some very friendly people all passionate about their cars and very welcoming to the only non Italian car there. I grabbed some great pics of the meet and museum while I was there and thought I'd share some highlights in this thread:

Here's my car next to Paul's 164L surrounded by a fleet of very clean Alphas from 3 decades.

Here's the only other non-Alpha at the meet. Also a dream car of mine, and the first time I'd seen one in the flesh. He and I hit it off naturally having the only two AWD cars and non-Alphas there.

After hanging out in the parking lot and drooling over Italian design, we headed into the museum for a guided tour lead by our own PaulDexler. Here is where my jaw hit the floor. This ultra-rare Rolls has now classed up my laptop by becoming my desktop pic.

And here's one for all the speed demons out there. One word: Veryon

A very special thank you to Paul for inviting me out, and giving such a well guided and informative tour of a very fine museum. I had a great time, and am looking forward to meeting more SVX owners in the near future. We've got to do this again soon.

Re: California members

Well you California owners are blessed to have some wonderful machinery, and some very genuine owners in your back yard!

Lovely photos Kit, and I'm glad you enjoyed the weekend. I have not spoken to Graham yet, the journey back is tied to jet lag, so he would need a day or so recovery time.

My thanks to everyone who responded, but particularly to Paul for his generous spirit with his time and his interest, and to his Alfa friends.

Hey, next time I organise one of these, I better organise myself into the picture!!

Thanks guys.

Re: California members

PS Kit.

Check my "Betty" picture above. I have a few silver cars, including a very rare CXD model with 4WS, but your Ebony is so cool I'm going to finish and drive Black Betty ASAP.

Your car looks da bizzness, dood!

Re: California members

Hey glad to see some CA action finally came together!

Keep it up Paul and everyone else, in a year or two I'll be in the Bay Area! I promise to drive from the BA down to SoCal for a weekend event if you all return the favor sometime.

I can also see some great meets halfway between the two CA's on the coast too.

We on the west coast will never have whatever it is they have on the east coast, but we can have fun. We've had several meets up here in WA with 15 or more SVXes, and a couple with more than 20.

Re: California members

Guess I'll do my usual offer, this time with advanced notice:

If anyone wants to put something together in the Bay Area (within a "reasonable" radius of Morgan Hill) sometime between June 14-20, I can try to make it. The earlier the notice the easier it would be for me to drop by, sans SVX of course.

Don't expect you So Cal guys to come up, but I think there are a few active members around the Bay?

Re: California members

Sorry I missed this meet guys, I was out of town, in Northern California. Thanks Joe for letting me know.

The rest of you SoCal guys, I'm down here now, so send me a note when you want to go for a run somewhere.

Re: California members

Hi, all,
Joe, Kit, and everyone else involved, the event at the Petersen was fun. I tended to be rushing off in many directions at once (at least that's what it felt like,) but I think everyone, on both the SVX and Alfa sides, had a great time. And it was nice to meet some great people.
Macgyver, so far as the Bay Area is involved, my best friend from just about high school lives in SF, and I go up to visit him a couple of times a year. Anywhere on the peninsula would work, so long as I know a month or so in advance.
I think it did good for the Alfa people to see another unique, Euro-styled car and meet everyone from the SVX side. In the fall, we are having an Alfa meet at the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar, that might be an occasion to go for another joint gathering. They have about 200 cars at the Nethercutt, and every year they take a couple of them to Pebble Beach. Last year, they won Reserve Best of Show with a Packard LeBaron phaeton, this year they're taking a 1912 DeDion-Buton roadster, the first production car with a V-8 engine. They're also taking a Bugatti that won its class a couple of years ago. We always go to Nethercutt after Pebble, because then they're not in a panic about finishing restorations and prepping cars. They do their own restoration, with 14 employees in the shop, and every car in the collection has to be driveable on a few minutes notice.
We're having a picnic afterwards, in our President's back yard.
Any get together is good for me!
Paul

Re: California members

I'll throw my name even though I'm only in CA a few weeks a year, but would love to hook up with some events. Will eventually be permanently down there though. For my "resume", go to the Northwest forum, search any threads I started going all the way back to 2001.

Re: California members

So that's 5...

I know that Paul and S'Ko aren't on here every day, so that's a couple more accounted for. I've been on the forum for over a year, and have been to the only local meet in that time. That was Paul, myself, and a member from Europe! I'd love to have the sense of community that WA, PA and NJ seem to have, but it's up to us to put that together.

"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves"
--Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

That said, I'll be installing my bushings from Earthworm (provided they arrive in the mail) this weekend in the valley (Reseda), and if anyone would like to swing by to shoot the breeze and wrench on an SVX you're all welcome. I know this is short notice, and wouldn't constitute a "meet" but I thought I'd throw that out there.

PM me if you're interested.

Otherwise, we've got March in Death Valley to look forward to. Maybe something earlier???
