Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

After much research and opinion polls I ordered an Optima Yellow top over a Red top based on the fact that my sound system and electornic gadgetry is pretty crazy! The 3 South Dakota winters took their toll on my good ol' Super start. (California battery which is rated at 500 CCA.) Anytime it gets below 30 degrees the car won't start, heck it doesn't even turn over, and so far that has been the past ohh... idk... 8 days

Took her on a 300 mile trip, she performed flawlessly, what a great highway car.

More bench work on the JDM to USDM HVAC controller. Recover from a pre-winter head cold.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I took off my rear spoiler so i can repaint it, so it will look proper again.

Also need to figure out which other coil is going bad. I replaced one which was totally dead, must be another one that is on the way out.

Also...working up the price list for Phenolic spacers check the mod mania post if interested.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Left work early yesterday to put my snow tires on. I'm not used to snow this early and I'll be needing them today.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

97 SVX

Installed Re-built trans from my donor car.
replaced rear main crank seal.
re - sealed plastic observation port at back of engine.
swapped out the summer 18s' for the snows on 17s'
new trans filter
10 liters Mobil1 full synthetic trans fluid.

Total, all in..$670.00 and a box of Krispy Kreme.

So That's what a fresh trans feels like.... Damn!!

02 WRX

4 rotors ( anodized ), slotted and drilled, semi-metallic pads
$180.00

Oil change ( full synthetic),
extract broken caliper mounting bolt, free up two seized sliders,
machine rear rotor e- brake lip. so it will turn when you tighten the wheel lugs
put on the snows... sigh ...

$240.00

Been, well, a long time since I've ran semi metallic pads.. forgot how much I like the feel of them, I'll put up with the black dust and reduced lifespan just for the way they feel.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I decided it was time to get my SVX a new cheap supplemental daily driver.

Last time I just grabbed a base model legacy lease, but I did not want to lease again this time.
Subaru's here were like $21K for an Impreza, $23k for a Legacy, which is more than I want to spend on a second car.

I didn't really need AWD on it, just something cheap on fuel, not a hatchback, and not terrible to drive...
So I went with a 2014 Mazda3 iSport 2.0L 6-speed manual:

For what it cost me, it is actually a pretty fun car to toss around these twisty mountain roads.
It reminds me a lot of driving my 2001 Impreza 2.5 RS coupe.

This is my first non Subaru in 14 years, will see how this goes...

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

my 97 SVX got new rear bearings both left and right..did the job myself with my fathers assistance, used his press. Car has 66k
The old bearings, had grease, but the rollers showed heat signs, they were noisy. I think they were redone at some point prior to me getting the car, and i think they didn't use the right grease maybe.

Some owners have noted that after repeated failure they also replaced the hubs (which may have distorted from bearing over heating). Something to keep in mind for the future.
