front top hat replacement

Last year I installed the AMR coil overs and have been very satisfied but I problem has developed that is not with the coil overs but is affecting how they work. The OEM rubber top hats have deteriorated to the point that they are barly holding the top of the coil overs. They need to be replaced immediately but I'm looking for top hats that will compliment the coil overs and not just OEM replacements. I looked at early STI Group N top hats but the spacing of the top bolts is different; anyone have a recommendation for an aftermarket top hat that can help the coil over perform to their best? Do you think drilling new holes in the support to fit the STI top hats would be advisable or would it weaken the support; what if I welded a bolt into the old holes?

Re: front top hat replacement

What about welding 2 top hats together to take up the slack.

Re: front top hat replacement

Never though of that. I think I'd prefer using the Group N top hats if they fit the center hole for the shaft.

Re: front top hat replacement

I'm sure I saw a thread here on installing STI struts and what was required for the top mount. Perhaps under mods?

Thanks for the input; I checked under "How to do" and couldn't find any reference.

Re: front top hat replacement

I searched under mods and found several threads on the STI suspension and although I'm not installing the STI struts, it appears that the front STI top hats will fit w/drilling a new hole in the tower. But I still don't know if the center hole in the Group N top hats will fit the Koni replacement for our OEM struts?
