4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
I just talked to John Edwards at Costa Mesa R&D Automotive(949-631-6376) who builds 1,000hp EG33s for off road use and he said he can build a turbo street engine for pump gas. He's backed up 6 months though and can't take any cores for 2 months-just enough time to pay off some credit cards.

I honestly do not see anyone jumping on this. 10k is way too much (unless he's building it for 30+ boost) and we have someone around here attempting to fab something similar.
Has this John done any work with the eg33 in an SVX? It's a little different than sitting on the back of a dune buggy.

Re: 4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
I agree that it is almost more than twice as much as what it should cost. Our engines can make such HP much easier than what the common perception is. At the crank that is...
For $10k I would expect something close to 700ish.... nothing is impossible. -Sov13t.

Re: 4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
John basically said it would be $9-10k no matter if he built a 1,000hp or 400hp engine, basically the 400hp motor could handle up to 1,000hp, so I see it as a solid motor for long term racing.

Re: 4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
Some people throw the high price tag on to wave off people from asking them to do the job. It is the same practice that some dealerships do to avoid having to fix an item off of an older modelled Subaru. Maybe it is a huge mark-up. Who knows!
Does he have any road going SVXs that have this work already done on it? If it is emissions free and something that can be driven by anyone (carefully), then I am sure he'd have a couple of buyers. I think we forgot to thank you for the info. Thanks!

Re: 4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
It'd be great if this guy can do this, I would particularly be interested in what management system he has running this. I highly doubt this guy has been able to make this engine compatible with an SVX, as other's have mentioned it is much easier to put this type of engine in a flat out drag racer or dune buggy or something like that, to make it work with the SVX is a completely different animal..

Re: 4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
I think you are missing the point... he will build an engine capable of handling 400hp for $10k. NOT making 400hp.

Schrapleerenerr...I thinks you need to re-read the op before posting that sleeve video as an argument against the motors being built

Re: 4-500hp Turbo Motor for $10k
now, is 10k the price of a short block or long block? for 10k could he get say, a long block capable of holding 600ish hp that needs only the bolt on bits to work? (Turbo, engie manament) if its the later it ist that that unreasonable, especially considering its essentially a 1 off

The sleeve vid is the engine guy and one of his EG33's, that's all. I sure ain't spending stupid $$$$ just to get a few hundred hp outta an EG33. I'd spend $1000 and get a complete N20 setup and have 75hp+ and then save $$ for a trans! or buy an new STi
