It doesnt seem to be hitting, but more looking is being done. The hood does close and its not denting it nor damaging the radiator.

Wasnt too bad, just above freezing when I did it. Was fortunate to complete the project a few hours before a 2 inch snow dump. Was sooooo cool to have my AWD back on the road. Went THREE months without driving it. Put 160 miles of just driving around on it right after the install. Cools just fine!

An SVX in the snow is quite agile. An SVX in the snowwith studded rally/MS tires on it is like a snow cat with clearance problems!

Re: Couple of Questions

I am pleased to hear that it has arrived and there seems to be only one small fitting problem with the cap.

I have viewed the pictures and have a couple of questions.

1. Will the test fit consist of a full installation? Including the fans and housings?

Full instalation done, fans and everything line up fine.

2. Will you be driving the car with the test fit rad installed?

Done, over 200 incident free miles. Cores on this radiator are a bit larger and thusly offer a bit mroe cooling capability as well.

3. What is the weight comparison between stock and PWR Rad?

Unknown. The all metal one is just a "bit" heavier due to metal tanks versus plastic. But, the radiator is quite light and weighs less than 20 pounds (probably closer to 15-16).

4. What is the volume of PWR Rad and a stock rad? I am talking liquid capacity not sound level.

Also unknown, but I can say it took an estimated 1/2 a gallon more than the one that came out.

5. Is it possible to get the final product without the PWR logo painted on?

Will email about it. You cant see it when installed. The fans cover it from the back side and the A/C coils cover from the front. I am proud to have their logo on it, its a beautiful peice of work. And although their logo cant be seen on it due to instalation, I am proud to put their logo on my car at the track.

6. Will the outer surface be coated with anything and what color will it turn out to be?

The tanks are POLISHED and shiny aluminum. My bother-in-law has an aftermarket high performance radiator in his race car (Eagle Talon), and his tanks are brushed, not polished. He saw this radiator and immediatly agreed about workmanship and quality. Needless to say he is ordering one as well for his 92 Pearl SVX. On that same note, I am going to ask some machine shops here how much to polish the intake manifold to match!!

7. What year is the SVX that is the test bed?

1992, but ALL SVX years use the same radiator. There seems to be no production differences (minus the foam crap in the 92-93 transcoolers).

8. Where there any changes to size, mounting hardware/location over the years for the SVX?

See above

9. Are there any differences between neck lengths for upper and lower hoses of PWR and stock Rads? If so, are there any modifications needed to hose lengths to allow for these differences?

No. Everything is designed to be a direct fit without modifications or machine work.

10. I don't remember my rad having a molten pool of steel looking top to it, has the Rad in the car pictured had some work done to it? If so, was a good stock rad (one without any damage or repairs to structure) sent as a template?

Are you refereing to picture of the OLD radiator? If so, there is a whole WAD of epoxy and crap used over the months to get it by until something (like this project) could be done. Everythign else in that picture is dried and leaked antifreeze all over the radiator and engine compartment. And YES, a factory SVX radiator was sent to PWR as a template to make this one so perfect. Immortal_Suby already had his out and ready for shipping when PWR was wanting a comparison to go by.

Thanks in advance for answering these questions, as well as putting this group buy together Chris.

John

No problem dude!

Tight Fit?

If it is such a tight fit that you cannot tell whether or not it hits the hood, maybe there should be a slight size adjustment. Some of the cars may be just a little tighter.

Actually even the stock rad is a tight fit. Notice how the hood is shaped from the bottom just so the radiator would fit. Everything is close.

Whooohooo Chris!

Congrats Chris!
V. happy you have your "snowcat" back on the road and it sounds like the timing was right...what with all the snow. We've gotten a tremendous amount of rain in S Cal and the feeling of safety/security I enjoyed while driving my SVX in heavy rain on the freeways (especially on/off ramps) is worth the price of admission. Undoubtedly more so in snow.
It will be v. interesting to see how effective the new cooling system will be in the summer heat. Stock engine cooling has never been an issue for my'92 but as I've said before the tranny's a heat sink. The heat radiating out from under the car when parked is intense. I hope this new rad will be an elegant solution to the tranny heat issue. I'm sure the rad and new hoses will go a long way to improving reliability and longevity.
Thanks for all your trouble and effort...I hope you're making a little coin on this deal.
Stay warm,
WGJ

No problem on getting this project to go through. As for benefit, mine is getting my own radiator and putting my car back on the road. I did not do this project for profit. The very same reasons applies why this is not a pay service. I am looking to make my experience as well as everyone elses better for owning and enjoying the Subaru SVX. If I was in it for profit, I would open a shop (Especially a SVX tranny shop. I would make bank!)

A small showing of gratitude?

Your altruism is admirable...however I think it would be quite appropriate if everyone benefitting from your efforts threw in an extra $10 so we can pay for your radiator. Your time is worth money and you've made it easy for the rest of us to make a major upgrade to our SVXs for a v. good price. You saved us a lot of money, time and trouble. Am I the only one who thinks this?
Hope you're not offended...the sentiment is greatly appreciated but if each rad customer throws in $10 it should cover most of the cost of your rad and compensate you a little for all your time and effort. I realize the Network's not-for-profit but time is money and you certainly deserve it.
Anyone else agree?

Makes sense to me as well. If not for Chris's hard work arranging this buy, as well as maintaining this site, we'd all be out on a limb, with an "odd" car, trying to figure out what/where/who/how etc. Small price to pay to express our appreciation.
Paypal?

ill do it no prob. There is a thread posted about how you can donate money to the cause of the SVX net hanging in the babble forum. Just find it and send him some money. I think it would be very proper for a man such as chris to gain from his valient effeorts to help the entire SVX community. Not many people have noticed his input which is good deals of money and a great amount of time just so we, the members, can keep our cars running and keep in touch with fellow SVXers. He deserves more than just credit so i will try and find the thread and post it so you can donate to the Network.
