danced with a 350z
on the way to boston this afternoon, i played with a 350z on the highway.. at one point, i saw him punch it and start catching up to me REAL FAST.. so i punched it too.. we evened off around 100mph and it SEEMED like i was either keeping up with him or maybe even pulling ahead a little, but i couldn't quite tell. he didn't get past me until i decided we were going too fast for my blood (and tire rating) so i let off and he went by..
i THINK he should've been able to pull right ahead, but maybe he didn't actually have the thing at WOT.. -adam |

Fun times! Yeah, I think he should have been able to blow your doors off. Maybe he was still breaking it in and was keeping the revs a little lower.

Maybe he thought you were packing some serious heat under that engine
"Whoa what kind of car is that? Better not mess with it"

Well, assuming that I lost in an off the line race (I know, not the SVX strong point) to a Chevy Trail Blazer , I would agree that the 350 would blow the SVX's doors off. However, I did drive it about 5 months ago and I remember feeling that after 2nd gear, the acceleration in that thing died off compared to the first two gears. Not to say that it was slow in 3rd, but I didn't think it had too terribly much on the SXV. Still, though, I doubt he/she was really going at it.

Well the Numbers are sure in the 350z's favor, but I wouldn't doubt that the SVX can hold it's own on the Hiway... Lets not forget that the SVX is one of the world's best hi speed tourers!!!! And remember the acceleration from 60 up is alot better than from 0-60......

someone on the NASIOC forum test drove a 350z, and wasn't really impressed - said it didn't feel as strong as the specs would have you believe, not much faster than a stock WRX. also, they apparently have HORRIBLE handling in rain/snow, but that's a given in a RWD sports car i guess.

when i drove a 350z last month, i was pretty impressed overall, but as i said to the salesman, "after paying $5,000 for THAT (pointing at my svx) it takes a lot to impress me.."

I disagree...that 280HP is still present even in 4th gear. Plus, it has the advantage of the reduced friction of 2wd (compared to our AWD), so less loss in the drivetrain (theroetically...I don't know the actual loss figures for either car). I would say it's possible that he chose the wrong gear...there are so many to choose from in that car I love the SVX, but I still don't think, even at high speeds, it would take the 350.

all i can say is if you want speed get a C5 vette hehe...i put around 1000 miles on one recently and if you are a power hog it is the car for you and even in the rain it has nice traction. But i do miss driving a SVX.
