Talking Reeeemote

I just got a new remote and programed the system and it works great. I haven't had one for about 2 years so this is a special treat for me. Took awhile to program as I was not PUSHING the button hard enough.

Don't forget to tuck it under your chin for extended range.

The first one I got with the car went thru a battery every week and the range was about 6" form the pasenger door. This one works much better. I only heard of one other person having to change the battery in the glove unit and I am glad that was not a problem or I'd have taken it on the chin. (Oh I just got a new remote and it doesn't work. must be that other battery)

Do you mean somebody told you that they changed a battery in the security box behind the glove compartment? I've never heard of such a thing.

Remote

I just won a remote on ebay and I have never had one so I am pretty excited to get it. It will be a nice change.

Me neither. Fuse, yes. Battery, no. I've had the security unit apart and have found no battery. Voltage to run the system, while the key is off, is stored in a capacitor, I think. Once the capacitor is drained, the unit begins to draw from the car battery (along with the clock memory, etc.). Thus, if you leave your car parked for an extended period of time, the battery will die.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right Randy! My battery did die!

If you believe there is a battery for the securiety system behind the glove box, I have a 250,000 mile tranny for sale. And cheap too.

Yes I thought I remembered someone saying a battery in the alarm box but I searched and can't find it. Glad to know that it isn't required. I thought it was in the thread with stretching out the antenna to improve the range.

And in case you want to know it was $45 "new" at Liberty.

I've heard some refer to the "fob" as a box. It is a cheaply styled remote, but, it's stock, so, I gotta have it.

I believe Doug Mohr (Mohrds) tried to extend the antenna on his security system (it's a small piece of wire, kinda like the "pigtail" antenna on a wireless microphone). I don't think he got much increase in range, however. Did you, Doug? Refresh our memories (I think this was posted on the Yahoo board).

Why would you want to increase the range? What, 5ft isn't good enough for you?

And, yes, if you let the car sit for long enough the battery will drain completely. Mine currently (HA!) doesn't have enough juice to retract the seat belts or lock the doors.

There is an unused wire in the Security harness that runs back and connects to the rear window defogger. Inside the security box, this terminal is not connected to anything, and the little 'pigtail' is soldered on there. It looks like something of an afterthought. It would be very easy to hook the antenna to the rear defogger.
