Question New Owner Questions

I just got a 96 LSI and there were a couple of questions I had:

Beside the driver's footrest, there are some disconnected wires. Everything in the car seems to work (have not tried alarm system yet). Is there a diagram or something showing the wiring. Maybe it is left over from a cell phone or something?

Second, I had a mechanic check out the car and everything looked good (knock on wood), but he thought I might be leaking a little power steering fluid. Could this be the o-ring fix I have seen mentioned on the board (steering makes no noise at all)?

Thanks,
Craig

The power steering fluid leak is likely to be from a worn out o-ring.

Best of luck with the car and welcome to the forum.

Do look into getting an auxilary tranny cooler if you do not have one already.

Matt

Hi Craig and welcome.

Can you see the PS fluid is coming from? It may be a hose is leaking.

If those are the 2 blue wires then that's normal. Those are the wires used only when checking engine codes.

The two most common PS fluid leaks are the O ring and the pressure hose. I had a very small pin hole that just dripped so little, it was hard to find. I knew it was PS fluid, but the leak was hard to find because it moved down the hose and dripped at a low spot. If the fluid is below the base of where the O ring is, it is probably that. It doesn't have to make any noise at all to be leaking.

Thanks. I will take a closer look this weekend. It is too dark by the time I get home from work. There is so much good info on this site that it makes me think about doing things that I have never tried before (i.e. Tranny coolers, changing transmission fluid myself, headlights, etc). The first project will probably kill that itch, though

I call this SAMS, or "Self-Assured Male Syndrome". The most common symptom of SAMS is the statement "Hey - how difficult can THAT be?".

Welcome to the network - it's a great place to be - and good luck with your SVX and any projects you take on.
