Car is low in the rear

My car sits low in the back. I realize all SVX's are like this, but it seems to be a little worse than usual. Whenever I go over big bumps at decent speed, the back end makes a LOUD thud, especially if I go over train tracks quickly. I do have a subwoofer in the trunk that is probably close to 80lbs, but there's no way that's making me bottoming out, or that I'm even bottoming out at all. Are stiffer springs the savior here? I will not even think about getting a new suspension... I can't afford that right now, and it's not necessary for daily driving. Strut mounts? It sounds almost like there's no springs there at all..

Re: Car is low in the rear

I'm willing to bet your strut mounts have collapsed in the rear. It is a common problem as the design of them leads to debris and moisture collecting and rusting out, eventually collapsing. Even on a car that has no body rust or any other signs of rust issues.

When the strut mounts rust... what does that mean for the car?
Is it just replacing some parts?
Or is it lots of body work?

Re: Car is low in the rear

I know I need new strut mounts. I guess it's just time. They're fine unless I go over a really huge bump (thanks, Pennsylvania), so I'll just deal until I can find a good set. Would used ones in great condition be okay? College kid here trying to save money.

Re: Car is low in the rear

I had my rear spring sag to where they were touching the wheel. I replaced them and the sit like 2-4 inches above now.

Just the mounts themselves, not the towers like on front 3rd gen caravans.

Re: Car is low in the rear

See attached photos.... this came as a total surprise to me when installing the Koni inserts.... had to box the mount by tagging with 1,25mm sheet.

I now have new parts on the shelf - will swap them during the winter.
