Broke My Manual Trans Question

So like ...I was being stupid as usual and screwed up my $1600 06 WRX manual trans. I did a reverse burnout in a body shop...typically the floor is covered in dust so its safe. Well my tires had wet on them from washing the car and the tires hopped until a terrible grindy noise suddenly appeared.

The noise only happens in reverse. No forward gears make any abnormal noise.

So my question is after I do a drain and fill and fish the metal out can I expect this thing to not explode in 1k miles? obviously a tear down is in the near future but I don't wanna miss the pumpkin carve.

Also where can I get manual trans parts from? Thanks in advance.

please feel free to call me stupid names...I deserve this one

Re: Broke My Manual Trans Question

looks like you'll just have to open it up and put in a new reverse gear, guaranteed the sprocket is strippe
it could be done in a day's work

Ive heard the same thing from a couple people...Im just gonna do the flush for now drive it up to the pumpkin carve and stay out of reverse whenever possible. Im guessing I can only get parts from the dealer. Ive tried to a few different times with no luck.

75-90w gear oil was it? I dont remember how many quarts.

i think its 75-90w i used lucas synth, and its 3.78l so a gal, pick up 4 quarts and you should be good. i wish you luck that whatever sheared off the reverse gear does destroy the others.

Re: Broke My Manual Trans Question

there should be plenty of people to push you backwards at the pumpkin carve . Good luck. Hopefully the fix isn't too expensive

Re: Broke My Manual Trans Question

Check to see if 1stsubaruparts.com has your trans parts. I just bought a bunch of timing belt covers, bolts and seals from them at about 1/2 of the prices my local dealer quoted. Very friendly, patient and informed people there.

More on the dealer later; AFTER I get my car back.

Enjoy the PCarve.

Re: Broke My Manual Trans Question

Thanks guys.

I did the drain and fill today. No metal came from the drainplug...stuck a magnet in there to try and hook some but no bites. Used a blow gun to try and find some but again, nothing.

I cant help but think this is a bad thing. If something is loose in there it shan't end pretty. When I find out hopefully it wont be the hard way

Re: Broke My Manual Trans Question

why would headgaskets only cause noise only in reverse?

Re: Broke My Manual Trans Question

The gaskets see pressure in different areas when the engine turns the other direction.
