Reading TWELVE Raffle
.
I want to make the next raffle an event which regenerates the enthusiasm, interest and anticipation of years past! We need to start early and get a list of things that members would want to take a chance on. Posting a list of what would be donated could be the beginning. Some of us are in the process of trying to get some big-ticket items that would definitely generate interest and promote ticket sales. We would also allow members not attending Reading to purchase raffle tickets as well. Anyone winning a prize would be responsible for shipping of that prize to them. We would need some sort of commitment on what was being donated. If the person donating could not make Reading, arrangements would have to be made to assure that the particular item got there. We may never have another raffle car, but in the past we have raffled off such things as a new pair of dimpled/slotted rotors, a pair of rebuilt and powdercoated calipers, an Alcyone hood emblem, a set of NGK spark plugs, new air filters, alternator and A/C belt set, etc. We even had a special drawing for a complete set of factory service manuals. We may be able to ask some of the Subaru dealers and some of our aftermarket vendors to help out as well. Maybe a SeatsRestore Leather Dye Kit for example, or something from Dayle at Motorsportwarehouse. This will have to be a community effort and more involvement than last year. Start posting what you have to offer, whether it is a product, additional advice and suggestions, whatever. We can do this and we have a lot of time to make it very worthwhile. And a special thank you for those who have already contacted me on this subject with suggestions and offerings; you know who you are. .

Re: Reading TWELVE Raffle
I would suggest going back to an auction style set up where people get to bid for the things they want. Makes it tough for those not there but a list could be published on Friday and they can pm their max pricing for a proxy bid. I think the site would make out far better.
"Crap" that might not be very valuable can be coupled with other stuff.

Re: Reading TWELVE Raffle
Well the nice thing about a live auction is that you can get the fever a little more than a silent auction, leaving more left over for the club. Besides, if you get Earl going and bow out at the right time he might have to trade in his plane ticket home.
It also helps to ensure everything gets bid on. You simply don't move on until someone takes it.

Re: Reading TWELVE Raffle
Interesting idea. Sorry as I haven't been here too long, but is that how it was done for certain years?

Re: Reading TWELVE Raffle

Maybe an auction is an alternative way to go. If something was offered that was of interest, only those who genuinely wanted it would bid. It would not be like you were "stuck" with something you didn't really want or need, as in the standard raffle scenario. Works successfully on ebay. The silent auction for some items would be interesting as well. The only downside is, in this economy, the more affluent members are able to compete with an advantage (placing higher bids) that those of more modest resources are not afforded. The raffle gives everyone the same chance, but again allows the more affluent to buy more tickets to increase their odds of winning. No matter how it's handled, it all benefits the network in the end. I never was a fan of the 50/50 raffles. .
