A few months ago i shut her down, went to resart and nothing. just turning over with a few misfires. I checked the timing belt, fuel pressure, the only code I get is 21( temp sending unit) I am needing some help before winter hits....

I would recommend getting the coolant temperature sensor from the dealer, as aftermarket ones tend to suck. |

Re: Engine not starting?????
Try this, unplug it and try starting again. Hopefully you didnt crank the engine too much before and flood it. If the sensor is bad it may start right up with it disconnected......however the ECU rarely throws a code 21 unless the temp sensor is actually bad, so it needs to be replaced anyways...... this will just confirm it and at least hopefully get your car started.

Re: Engine not starting?????
I will try that first... I have cranked over quite a few times.

Re: Engine not starting?????
Do you think its the crank angle sensor? Did not start with the temp sensor unplugged.

The reason I ask is, one time I thought my belt was ok and the driver side cam was in time with the crank..... and I assumed then ok the pass. side must be too (that cover is more of a PITA to remove), but what happened is a idler pulley dust seal caught in the belt and skipped timing on that one cam..... and trying to start gave a few misfires then nothing. For this one you may try using starting fluid first in the intake, that way you can decide if you have properly timed spark or not and go from there. |

Aha...I only inspected the drivers side cover. Did try using starting fluid, failed to fire. I will remove all covers and go from there....

Re: Engine not starting?????
Actually if I remember correctly you can save yourself the trouble of removing the middle one and just use the mark on the crank pulley to verify TDC..... to remove the middle cover you have to remove the alternator and the A/C bracket, as well as the crank pulley, not needed just to verify timing.
Hopefully you havent ripped that far into it yet. As far as the pass. side timing cover, it helps a lot to remove the EVAP canister and bracket first, and use a small bottle to catch the fluid when you pull the PS return hose. |
