HELP! stripping torque converter bolts!
im trying to remove the 4 TC volts through the access hole, but no matter what, the wrench/socket just skips off! on all 4 bolts! 1986Nate suggested extractors, and thats my next shot after work tomorrow, but im afraid i wont have the room to get them on the bolts and get a wrench in there along with them. any other ideas, just in case that doesnt work?! im kind of lost here, everything else on the stock trans removal has been problem free, except for this PLEASE HELP

Re: HELP! stripping torque converter bolts!
If you pull the alternator and use a long extension, you can put more force against the socket. If your not already using a 6 point socket and the bolts aren't too damaged, switch to a 6 point.

Re: HELP! stripping torque converter bolts!
Costco sells really great "box end" ratchets, in sets, that are tougher than you think. You can use a cheater with it also, just keep it all the way on the bolt!

Re: HELP! stripping torque converter bolts!
thanks a bunch guys! Turns out 1986Nate actually sent the extentions tip but i didnt notice it on my phone. luckily, my alternators already out! with luck, by tomorrow night the trans will be in, only needing to rebuild the cv's, and hopefully get the beads on the stock rims fixed to get it on the road!!
YEAH! So excited! |

Re: HELP! stripping torque converter bolts!
Agreed, if alternator is out, use long extensions and only 6-point socket. If corners are damaged, and that happens, get a socket that grabs the flat between the corners. Good luck
