Fastest street-legal car on the planet

This guy lives not too far from me in Manchester, Maryland. I saw the car parked at a drive-in event about a year ago, but did not know anything about it; just thought it was a wild custom.

Just featured in Carroll magazine in an article called "Car Crazy in Carroll"

Rod Saboury’s 1963 Corvette holds the record for being the fastest street-legal car on earth.

http://www.boostlimit.com/?p=81

The Corvette has a custom made 2,400 horsepower twin turbocharged small block Chevy built by Moran Engines, which still gets 11 MPG highway

The Corvette does 0-60 mph in 1 second and 159 mph in 4.56 seconds. Covers the quarter mile in 6.96 seconds @ 210.54 mph

The car meets all Maryland state inspection requirements which require working headlights, tail lights, working doors, windshield wipers, turn signals, pump gas, and DOT approved tires.

And he even has an svxfiles hood prop.

Re: Fastest street-legal car on the planet

I'd take the Veyron. Comfortable, elegant, luxurious and can kill you in an equally grandiose style. Also equally street legal in the US but more importantly, this is a production car, not a one off.

I know we should have a race like on Top Gear. Have both of them get down the main straight and see whats goes faster. I think it'd be the Veyron because the Vette would more than likely explode on such a long stretch of road.

Checked out the first link and then the video of the dyno. The sound of it is really awesome. Jet like.
Someone explain why you can't get a third of the HP with three times the MPG.
This guy is an absolute genius if he can get 2400 with 11. That's the core of this post I think.

What does that Bugatti cost in USD and what is the MPG?
Boosting the living hell out of it and getting the engine as efficient as possible. The millage really doesn't surprise me much.

Consider that he's going to be able to run 60mph or so with his foot off the gas. So take your foot off the gas while your car rolls down the highway and tell me your millage?
