Wire issue under the drivers seat.

Well one day the windows in Killer Tomato decided to not go down (and the drivers seat won't move). I did some research on here and found that there seems to be a common problem with the wires under the drivers seat corroding. I took out the drivers seat today and found that the wires were in perfect condition. I tested the wires to see if there was any power. Only one of the two plugs gave me a reading. The one circled in the picture is the problem...

So I started to undo the electrical tape to see if the wires are corroded. So far from what is above the carpet they look fine. Now I guess I have to peel back part of the carpet to get to the rest of the wires.

So I guess my question is: Is there an easier way to find out WTF is going on with this wire? Does anyone have a specific wiring diagram for this area? Will I have to rip the carpet out to fix this problem? Thankfully I don't drive this car much, but I want to have it fixed in time for Reading. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

Isn't it also linked to the relay as I believe one controls all of those.

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

Rebecca-

Try the connections on the breaker under the seat. It's mounted under the carpet, near the left front mounting point of the drivers seat. The breaker itself may also be bad. If everything seems in order, check all of the connections with a multimeter to make sure the breaker is getting power when it should. I had a similar issue with my 95 SVX, and I had to rewire the whole lot.

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

Thanks. I probably won't be able to work on the car again until the weekend (weather pending).

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

Yeah, what Mike said. The corrosion problem is actually under the carpet under the drivers seat. The area hold any moisture and ends up doing a number on anything electrical. I actually took pictures when it happened to Racer X. I'll see if I can't dig the pictures up.

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

Ok same issue, new problem.

My '96 P/Windows P/Dr seat, sunroof all quit at once. The combo of post searching, and looking at the wiring diagram in the PDF manual, led me under the drivers seat.
While under there I found the following:
#1, The relay is functioning, and getting 12V to pull in the coil.
#2, the circuit breaker is good. (reads 0 ohms)
#3, there is no voltage on the yellow wire from the 30A SBF under the hood, SBF is good. There is voltage at the fusebox.
#4 the SRS/meter fuse in the interior panel is good.

I was able to tap voltage from the coil side of the relay to run my windows, but I'm at a loss as to why there is no voltage to the load side of the relay. I'd much rather use the heavier guage wire for these high load accessories. Also, there is little to no corrosion on any of the terminals inder my seat. Subaru must have learned a trick or two, as all of my terminals are full of white dilectric grease.
Any clues to be offered would be GREATLY apprecieated.

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

OK, I know this was a zombie thread, but c'mon! LOL

Even though I jury rigged my windows back to operation, I know I'm risking a fire by running them off the small guage wiring for the relay's coil. I'm hoping someone knows where I may be losing power for the windows. I followed the loom under the carpet to the trans tunnel. No luck there.
Can someone point me to the next connector(s) without disassembling my whole car to find it?

Just making sure when you checked the power window relay you had 12vdc when you checked pin 1 to gnd? did you then do a continuity check between pins 4 and 2 to make sure the relay closed when the inductor (coil) was energized? You also checked the fuseable link on the black and white wire to the CB?

Re: Wire issue under the drivers seat.

I've got 12v on the relay coil. I don't have 12v on the contacts. The CB checks good, but has no power. In a nutshell, I have power to the coil in the relay(low V side) I don't have power to the contacts. (high V side) The fuse under the hood is good, and has power.
