Water in trunk

I have noticed water in my trunk in the well with the spare tire. Also noticed condensation in the tail lights. Anyone have this problem and hopefully a solution? Is there a seal around the trunk lid that could be causing this? No moisture that I can tell inside car. Thanks.

Never mind. found it in forum

Re: Water in trunk

I've read in the previous threads that they're common with our SVX's. Mine does the same thing, condensation in the tailights seems to dissapear when weather changes. You could keep one of the 2 rubber drain plugs off, or open for water to drain in the spare tire area.

Re: Water in trunk

Mine does this as well. I seem to remember a post a long time ago mentioning a drain from the sunroof gets clogged and causes this. I may be way off...

Many years ago I drilled small holes in the bottom of my tail lights to "vent" the moisture. It has worked well.

Drain from the sunroof gets clogged and causes flooding in the cab of the vehicle.. Not in the trunk..

As for the drilling, you think there is anything less extreem that can be done? Like adding silicone or additional seals?

Thumbs up Re: Water in trunk

Ah... I knew it caused flooding somewhere... The holes I drilled were in the bottoms of the light housing. It can't be seen outside the car. I took the light housing out and used a very small drill bit. Gosh I did this like 10 years ago. Immediate fix.

Re: Water in trunk

I took the driver's side trunk side panel off and found the drain hose for the radio antenna disconnected. Also found an empty bottle of vodka.

I had this happen and didn't notice after a month. Mine wasn't clogged but was pointing in towards the floor pan. My guess was that when I R&I my doors I must haved bumped one of them to the cabin.

A shop vac works well to get the water out and pretty takes care of the remaining moisture in the spare tire area.

Re: Water in trunk

It can be the gaskets between the tail lights and the metal. It will leak through that area as well.

Re: Water in trunk

Sure it isn't your tail light gaskets? I got mine from Liberty Subaru for about $50. Problem solved.
