Re: My silver car is toast....

Man, your place looks like Halifax did after it got hit by the eye of Hurricane Juan a few years ago. Good luck getting the SVX fixed with that custom sunroof.

Re: My silver car is toast....

I hope that homeowners insurance will somehow cover the damages. They would automatically say it auto insurance's bill, but you can fight with them about you just dropping insurance on it. If they won't budge, I would say, cut the top off, gut the inside, put in a roll bar, reinforcing the frame with the rollbar, and make it an open top roadsvxter. its really sad to see one get destroyed. good luck keep us posted.

Re: My silver car is toast....

Sorry to hear that bobby, especially with all the time and money put into that car

It doesn't look too bad looking at the pictures, so I hope you can still fix it

Re: My silver car is toast....

Here is the plan as of right now... After talking to OT, Jerry (subi-crosser), and YT. I am going to make every attempt at fixing this. I will be getting pix up hopefully tomorrow of the roof from the inside (with the headliner out).

Operation Save the Silver:

1. Pull headliner and inspect damage.
2. Clean out all glass and ice
3. Hammer/ push, pry roof structure into place.
4. Remove existing roof skin
5. Install new glass.
6. Install new roof skin from an L model (no sunroof)
7. Install new driverside door

My question is though, should I install a cage now that I am already going to be tearing up the car to repair it... Kill two birds with one stone so to speak...

Only if you are plan on making it fast enough so it will need a cage, which means your then obligated to do so

Re: My silver car is toast....

That would be the goal... What is the threshold for needing a cage? 11.99 and under???

Re: My silver car is toast....

That seriously sucks. While I love winter and the mayham it may bring, that's just brutal. Pictures really display how big it was. Best of luck with that.

Bobby

I am really sorry to see that damage. Like others have said, at least nobody was hurt, but I'm sure your heart hurts about it.

While the roof is off would be the time to install the cage. Statement of intent.

Best of luck fixing it up. It does look to me as if it can be sorted. Good plan to leave off the sunroof.

Joe

Don't know the threshold, but I do know that there is a known snap over steer (or is it under steer?) with the SVX at speed which causes it to roll.

Re: My silver car is toast....

Can't remember where I found that.
Thinking about it, the SVX does have understeer. From my experience it's the rears that begin to break loose if you hit the corners too aggressively. Backing off on the gas real quick in that situation in any good handling car with mid engine or low centre of gravity will induce oversteer & snap oversteer in many. I've also read on this forum of a few SVX's that have rolled. I know of 2 locally.

Would like to hear from other members on this one. Think I'll start a new thread.

Re: My silver car is toast....

Wow, that is really terrible damage! I was only in Mass once my entire life and it was durring the summer and I still thought it was effing cold!! I don't see how ANYBODY could live in New England. Then again I really liked Texas better than Mass, lol. I'm terribly sorry to hear about the car and especially supprised at the pictures!

One of my ex's used to live up there, then moved here, then moved back up to Maine so she must have seen the damage too. But still, looking at those photos makes it seem like you live in the forest! All I see is downed trees..

Also, about the custom sun roof idea.. I know your using an L model roof now so are you done with the custom sun roof idea now? Or going to try it on the pearlie at a later date?

Re: My silver car is toast....

Bobby,

Good luck getting the silver back up to par... I'm sure it'll be better than ever, as it always ends up when things are looking down for that car.

Wish I could help ya with the work, but I'm not around new england anymore.... you should come to sunny Florida!
