Fuel pump failure and syptoms.

I have just replaced my fuel pump with a secondhand SVX pump. What is worth pointing out is what made me sepuct the pump and what was found.
- I noticed over the last couple of months that the car would not use all the fuel but show empty so I supected the guage.
- On my last trip the car ran out of fuel 3 times and each time the guage indicated empty so you would think it was empty. When we filled it up it only took around 48 to 53 litres of fuel (tank holds 70L) so therefor it was not getting all the fuel out of the tank.
- I remembered that the tank has a venture that pumps the fuel from the other side of the tank using the return fuel so I suspected the fuel pressure regulater.
- We also notice that when call for full power the car missed and died so times.
- When starting it somtimes ran rough for the first couple of minutes.

So what I did was put a fuel pressure guage on the pressure side of the fuel supply to check the regulator and I found that the pump was not getting full pressure so I changed it.

Now the car uses all the fuel 65l and it doesn't miss when calling for full power, in fact it has a lot more power in all gears.

yeah..i noticed as well that when my fuel pump was going that the car ran like ****...it had no power and was stumbling..rough on the start up...
