it's better than the cheap looking gray plastic.

Re: the ugly wood dash is killing me!
I took all the woodgrain out of mine, and changed it to the grey plastic. I cant stand the 92 woodgrain, it looks so cheesy and crappy. If I could get my hands on 93+ woodgrain it would be a different story.

Re: the ugly wood dash is killing me!
Its all pretty easy to get off, a few tricks in some spots, but its straight forward mostly.
Hardest part is the lighter surround, and the climate control, you wont have the writing on there anymore if you sand it. If you want some help in detail, you can call me. Ive taken it all off already. PM me if you do, and ill reply with my number. -Dennis

Re: the ugly wood dash is killing me!
gauge cluster trim, 3 screws along the top, two screws behind the lower sets of buttons (Pry out to reveal)Unplug clock Top dash vent, pull out. Climate control unit, I believe theres two screws behind the vent you just removed, as well as a shared screw with the gauge trim you took out. cd cage, 4 screws behind the black trip piece surrounding the radio. Removing the cage is a *****...watch out on the right side for the gears and hooks grabbing the inner edge of the vynal wrap. Unplug stereo. For painting purposes, remove the radio from its cage. ash tray, pull out. shifter surround, pull out. Cigarette lighter is screwed from behind (No innuendos please), youll need to either make a special tool,* or remove the center portion of the dash via screws located behind the gauge cluster (Held in with I believe 8 screws) and under the lower lower dash plastic trim things shaped kinda like the nike swoosh (they pull off, three screws behind into a bracket, one into the center console, per side) as well as one screw behind the ash tray*. Drivers and passengers side door trims are held in with several screws, acessable once the door panels come off. its possible to remove the wood grain w/o removing the suede. The rear interior panels are much the same, except you need to remove all the screws holding the suede in as well to get the wood trim out.
When painting the climate control unit, you may want to have precision cut vynals made up to mask off the lettering. Use a thinner base coat over this part. Remove the vynal before clear coating to prevent peeling or any harsh edges

The writing
The writing is actually translucent white paint over clear green plastic, the woodgrain pattern is printed over that. you *could* paint it then carefully scratch the black off to reveal the white, but itd be easier to read the last bit of my post to see my suggestion for keeping the lettering

- Remove parts - Paint them - Apply Vynil writings - Apply Lacquer finish above everything. BTW Wolfy, what is the color of your Car? AND I do not recommend you paint them black. Mine is Silver, I painted the plastics same color... But black just doesn't look right on the grey interior.

Re: the ugly wood dash is killing me!
I agree that the 92 supposed woodgrain is ugly, but every painted dash job I have seen is horrendous and absolutely looks just that---cheap paint.
I changed my driver 92 woodgrain for the much better 96 woodgrain and it looks great. (Note to self-add a car to list of cars from here never to buy even if the opportunity comes up-- ) Lee

Re: the ugly wood dash is killing me!
016.JPGheres a pic of the paint i want to use, i sprayed it on a random piece of plastic last night to show you. its a bit of a rough texture black with reflective thingys in it lol its hard to see in the pic but it gives like a matte finish when sanded and primed correctly. wat you think? i also have the gray suede in the car and i think it would go nicely. wat you think?
