Tranny, diff, or axle gone going?
I've been getting some clunking/rattling over bumps and uneven pavement lately, I thought it was tie rods but as I was going to replace them I noticed the CV joints have a lot of play in them.
I can move them 1/8 inch on the actual 1/2 shaft or another 1/8 at the diff. I just had the axles rebuilt less than 5k ago, pins are in place, am I missing a seal or spacer? no leaks, no binding. Is this worse than I think and it's the front diff? I don't know if it's related but I just took a road trip and my tranny kept slipping in and out of TCL(torque converter lockup) while driving about 70mph. I wasn't going up hills, accelerating, or decelerating, just going flat and steady then out of TCL for 5-10 seconds then back in. tranny rebuild has less than 20k on it. let's hear some theorys please. |

There is some play in the axles, mostly in/out.
As to going in and out of TC Lock up, check your TPS voltage.

oh, good looking out, I will check the resistor.
with the axles though, it is all side to side movement (not rotational). It seems like the mid shaft should move there has to be some somewhere obviosly, but the part going into the front diff past the pin? I can't see why that should move. |

I wouldn't think it is your front diff, b/c when mine went out, it basically locked up the axles every 6/8's a tire rotation. So if thats not happening your probably alright I don't really know what would cause what your describing.
