Wheel studs
I need wheel studs ASAP... 4 total but any amount even just one is okay. The sooner the better.

depends, on the back it looks like you may be able to just pound em out. Most cars you need to just hit em with a hammer to pound them back through the hub. Not sure if it'll hurt our bearings or not, some times you have to press em out with like a c-clamp and something hollow, like a big socket on the other end so the stud has somewhere to go. Some washers and a new open ended lug nut would be good for installing the new studs, this combo helps ensure against cross threading them. doesn't need to be an oem lug nut, you're not using it to hold a wheel on anyway, just pulling a stud through. Not sure of the torque off hand, but something a little bit more than your lugs are torqued to should be fine.

Cheap, around a buck or two. I just replaced 2 on a rear wheel. The tone ring gets in the way. I removed the parking brake shoes to make enough clearance to move the tone ring back. I'm not sure if this was less work than loosening the hub. IIRC, there is more room in the front, but I don't know for sure what needs to be done there. They pounded out eaisly. I used a 3/8" spacer (large nut) with some grease between the hub and lug nut to pull them through.

You need to pull them all the way, torque has nothing to do with it.
Oh, I used a 3' extention on a 1/2" breaker bar. It made it easy and also gave a good feel for when they hit bottom. I'll recheck the lugs after 100 miles or so. Last edited by cdvs; 05-06-2007 at 08:42 PM. |

torque is most often 100 for a stud, it should be seated before you even reach wheel nut torque. but yeah, obviously make sure it pulls all the way

Another option would be to run a Die up and down the wheel stud to clean up the threads. i bought wheel studs to replace some on my SVX and ended up just cleaning up the threads and replacing the lugnuts. Worked out great.
