Airbag light

Ever since I bought my 92 LS-L, the airbag light has been lit. In the manual, it says that it comes on at 90,000 miles and to take it to the Subaru dealer. I don't want to spend $200 for them to reset a light. Does anyone out here know how to rest the light?

I don't know how to reset the light. I will look in the manual and try to find out for you. I know that you are supposed to have it checked and we found out that every time you start the car, the light comes on and then goes off again. That is how they check it. If it stays on, it means (I think) that there is a problem with it. I will try to find out and post back here again. Maybe someone else knows.

I had the same problem. One of the Airbag connections was loose ( behind the kick panel). It's a yellow connector.

I would like to just change out the steering wheel and ditch the airbag. Mines a 92 and only has a drivers side bag. They scare me anyway, I wear glasses and know people that have ended up with a broken nose from the bag and their gasses in a mostly minor accident,

yeah airbags can cause more damage than the actual accident from what I've heard.
I've heard of broken noses, cheek bones, and glasses

That is on slow speed accidents. What about the real bad ones? That is where they save lives. I understand your feeling about getting rid of it though. Good luck.

What a lot of people don't realize is that 9 times out of 10 when someone is actually injured by their airbag its because they drive like a granny where their face is 2 inches from the steering wheel. It says right on the visor to sit as far back as possible from the steering wheel while still maintaining comfortable driving. I was t-boned when a guy ran a light and my bag was very cusiony from what I remember

I wonder if my airbag works? Guess I'll have to get into another accident to find out.

Hope not though. Knock on wood.

Better safe than sorry. You're supposed to have you airbags inspected by a dealer after the car is 10 yrs old. I havn't gotten around to it yet myself, but I don't want to find out the hard way mine doesn't work. If any of you saw the thread with that terribly wrecked SVX where the airbag didn't deploy and the guy broke his neck among other things...sure he lived, but prolly wouldn't have been so badly injured if his worked.

pulled this from all data if you want to find the code its the same process as all the other codes just plug it into terminal 9

When the airbag warning light blinks at abnormal intervals, conduct self-diagnosis operation as follows:

Turn ignition switch On (with engine Off).
Connect DIAG terminal to No. 9 terminal of diagnosis connector, located below LH side A pillar cover, Fig. 3.
Read trouble codes outputted by airbag warning light.

list of codes:

TROUBLE CODE 2

Possible Diagnosis:

Front sensor harness is shorted.
Airbag main harness is shorted.
Roll connector is shorted.
Airbag module harness is shorted.
Airbag control unit is faulty.
TROUBLE CODE 3

Possible Diagnosis:

Front sensor unit circuit is open.
Front sensor harness circuit is open.
TROUBLE CODE 11

Possible Diagnosis:

Airbag control unit is faulty.
Airbag main harness circuit is open.
Fuse No.8 is blown.
Body harness circuit is open.

hope this helps!

While there is a method of checking the codes for the airbag system you require a special test harness to do so.
