Crunching noise...
Hey all! need some more advise... I'm getting crunch sound from the front left (drivers side) wheel area, can't figure it out, it isn't consistent but seems to do it if i go over a bump or when i turn left, its not a CV joint sound i know what that sounds like

I would check your shocks to see if the additional pressure from bumps isn't causing the sound. Also check for wheel rub, turning and speed bumps could cause that.

no way to check the shocks without taking it all apart. the bounce test doesn't work - for this car it seems. you can do the bounce test and think your struts are good but they are actually shot. i've tried before i changed out the struts on my car. i thought they were ok. but they were completely shot.
it could also be the link rod. when i had the car for the first few months, i was getting noise, particularly when i went over bumps. it turned out to be the link rods

I have the same questions on my mind... Are my shocks dead or not??? The car has 144000 miles on it & my friend who runs the Subaru garage said "NO" this afternoon & even told me that except for putting on aftermarket products like Tein or whatever, he never changed any shocks on any Subaru!!! Oh yes once he told me, on an Impreza... But with almost 400000 kms on the clock!!!
So WTF??? I keep on saying that they're dead because of all the noises I hear when I pass a bump (even a small one!) or get in a hole... And my friend says no, it comes from the ****ty Pirelli tires that are on & seem to have a rubber made of reinforced concrete!!! He suggests to try another set of tires, something more tender like Bridgestone or Michelin. What do you guys think? I only own the car for a few days and I'm kinda surprised by the way the shocks are working (or better said not!)... I taught that on a US Spec car like that it should have been something more chewing gum than hard-rock, loool Thanx.

really..the only way is to take the shocks off and take the spring off..that is the guaranteed way to find out. it will cost you money. but i am only telling you guys out of experience. if you dont find it valid. it's your choice

Also, when I got my Pearl, the front struts and mounts were completely shot, I mean, I did not want to drive it anywhere and the front tires were totally scalloped and cupped, it was scary. It's usually easy to tell when your struts are bad, You'll get a nice rattle when you go over a bump as the spring rebounds. Also, look closely at them and see if you can see where any oil may have leaked out. |

when i first got my car. i was told that the back passenger side was gone because of signs of leak. the other three had no signs of leak but were also gone

The rear struts on mine actually failed the bounce test...badly. That was my main reason for going with the Koni/GC combo.
