Suggestion -- If you've got some time, drive up to Tom's place (SVXFiles Garage) and have him do the job. Tom does it the right way - pulls the entire hub off and sends it to a machine shop to have the bearing greased and pressed in correctly. It's also a good excuse for a nice drive to Cumberland and to meet Tom and Diane!!
-Bill
p.s. Bethesda? Cool! I grew up in Wheaton/Silver Spring and make it back up to the area on a regular basis as my parents still live there.

So if his profile is correct Tom is all the way out in Wiley Ford, WV. I'd go within about an hour of DC but I think 120+ miles is a bit much for me. Especially since the bearing is already making a lot of noise and I'm going to stay off it as much as I can until it's fixed.

p.s. Bethesda is great, such a nice area. Only downside is it's so expensive, but you get what you pay for. If your ever in the area let me know and we can get the SVX's together.

Understood. I'd still recommend pulling the entire hub off and taking it to a good machine shop to have them remove the old bearing and press in the new one (you might want to pack the new bearing with good grease yourself). There is a strong feeling that many SVXi with recurring bearing issues can be traced back to distorted hubs caused by "Hubtamers" applied incorrectly.
Bethesda is definitely expensive...one of the few places I know where they're tearing down perfectly nice houses so they can build "McMansions" on 1/8 of an acre . I drive my "slightly modified" SVX to work at Goddard Space Flight Center at least once a week, so you might see me on the Beltway in the morning driving up from Calvert County.

I can send you a hub with a new bearing packed and pressed in. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to picking it up, only a few more hours. Where in Frederick are you, I grew up in New Market and went to Linganore High.

North of Frederick and south of Thurmont. Right along 15.

Just drove it home, it stalled out on me when I slowed down to take a turn into my neighborhood. I think it wasn't producing enough voltage at the lower rpms and the battery is low because the guy never drove it. Hopefully it'll work itself out when I drive it more and give it a tune up.

I took it for a ride around the block on some "backroads" in Bethesda, I think I'm gonna like this car. It was easily taking the curves and was very stable. It's a ton of fun to drive, I can't believe that it's 15 years old.

Just got back from another drive around town. It keeps stalling out when I'm coming to a stop. I'm thinking the transmission is not downshifting causing the rpms to go to low and thus stalling. Once I'm stopped it idle's fine, and it drives and shifts fine otherwise. It always starts right back up, any other ideas?

a thorough cleaning of the MAF should do the trick... Try some dry gas to get out some of the crap in the tank

MAF or IACV. You can actually buy spray cleaner made specifically for MAFs now, so try that out. Second thing would be to get some Throttle Body cleaner, pull the "Snorkle" off of the TB and start cleaning.
