Wiper Blades

About a year ago, someone said that they were going to get some informaton on some good wiper blades and maybe get a good price on them for a group buy. I don't remember who it was, so if it was you and you got the information, please respond. I am not in dire need of them right now, but would like to know if there are better blades out there that will not wear out so quick.

Thanks

I would like to get in on a group buy, and I'm not sure of a long lasting blade but the new RainX blades look like they would work well with our cars because of the shape of the windshields (especially rear)

The top competitors in the "beam" type wiper blades are the Rain-X "Latitude" blades and the Trico "Innovision" and their premium "Neo-form" blades.

These are the curved, one-piece blades, without the metal frames, that are on a lot of the European cars. Very sleek and seemingly durable.

I did a test comparative test of the RainX Latitude blades with my stock SVX wipers. The auto store didn't have both sizes I needed for the windshield, so I just put on the driver's side and left the passenger side alone.

I really like them in the snow and bad weather. The metal frames on the stock wipers would fill with snow and slush and lose their flexibility and not follow the contour of the glass as well and had a tendency to streak. The beam-type blade on the driver's side is all one piece and did not have this problem.

I also noticed virtually no streaking as well. The blades are curved and they seem to exert more pressure on the windshield under the tension from the wiper arms. They have a nice sleek appearance that complements the car as well.

I really want to check out the Neo-form as well. Trico has much more experience in the wiper blade industry than Rain-X. Plus the blade looks a lot sleeker and better designed.

The RainX Latitude blades are not cheap. The auto parts store had them for $19.99 each. You cannot just replace the refills as with the old wiper blades; you have to replace the whole blade.

I hope our car could have the front defroster for the wiper blades like some of the cars, such as some late model subarus too, so the blades won't get frozen in the winter.

I noticed my wiper arms may be not properly aligned with its summer/winter mode. It tried to tear out my passenger's blade.

I was going to replace the entire wiper blade/insert - then remembered that the SVX blades have these little bumper blocks attached to the middle that rest oagainst corresponding pads at the bottom of the windshield. So are those brands listed above available as a "refill" for the stock blades?

I have a set of the "innovision" wipers;

The only thing I don't like is in a light rain they tend to chatter

tire rack deal

Tire Rack has buy one, get one free on the Valeo version of the beam blades. If you get more than one pair, shipping's not that bad (around $7).

I currently have Bosch Icons and they are awesome. They work great in both snow/ice conditions and all kinds of rain. They have lasted about a year and are now starting to streak a little, but I think that is the lifespan of all wipers. For replacements I am either going to get the Icons again or go with some new ones I have found called the Jamak Gliders. The cool thing about the Jamaks is that the blade is silicone. The only stores that I have seen carry the Jamak Gliders is some but not all Wal-Marts (mainly Super Centers I think). The Jamaks are cheaper (usually around 13 each) than the Icons (normally around 20), which is a plus. The one thing I really like about the Icons is that they have the best looking/smallest mounting clip I have seen so far. The Trico Innovisions on the other hand have a HUGE mounting bracket and do not have the aerodynamic shape of the Icons or the Gliders. Whatever wipers you decide on, make sure they are a beam type design as they not only look better, but also function better as well.

Hiya,

I have the JDM PIAA Super Silicone blades, maybe a bit over priced generally for everyday use but priceless in heavy rain or at night!

I have used PIAA on all my rally & race cars for the past few years and cant fault them, they always do the job 110% when you realy need them and still cheaper than hitting something you cant see!

Darren.

have the Trico Innovisions on the wife's WRX, and they squeak and chatter alot.

i have the Bosch Icons on the LGT and i like them much better. they have built in "spoilers" for pressing them against the glass at speed.

If you're interested in something that's quiet, durable, relatively inexpensive, and readily available, I've found that plain Anco blades work beautifully. Of course, there's no "performance" brand cachet...
