but you understand that it wouldn't be called a SVX..it would be the 3rd generation Alcyone...

and each generation has had a X in the title

XT
SVX

so maybe we should call it the Subaru Alcyone (???)-TT (twin turbo 320BHP monster! )

think of a name for it ppl

6 cylinder, twin turbo'ed, Horizontally opposed love machine

+1 to that Huck.

Fix the nose and that was one beautiful car.

What's more, performance wise it would trounce the Mazda RX8. If they had tidied up and made that car, it would sell. 300 to 400 hp should have been easy enough with the flat six also.

Subaru is a niche player in the auto market, and they play their niche very well. Stepping out of that role got them into trouble with the SVX and I doubt they will go there again. A better possibility, in my opinion, would be to dabble in the personal sports car market, against Mazda, Pontiac and Saturn, a two-place roadster with a decidedly fun element of HP coupled with AWD. Relatively cheap to build, even in limited quantities out of mostly bin parts. (Mount that turbo H-4 engine right in front of the rear axles...Wow!)

That I'd be on board with.

n00b on the loose, but isn't the STi kind of the bastard great grandchild of the SVX? I see where SVXi styling cues have been adopted onto the WRXi.

comments? flame? sarcasm?

POINT: the car would need at least six cylinders to have a chance
the car would need forced induction to be competetive
it would definitly have to place itself in the $40k+ bracket of near-lux
of course, two doors, all-wheel-drive, and let's throw in the option of a standard transmission. Modern safety, nav, and comfort feautures.
Low-slung sporty design, and an STi package

It's disconcerting that they actually thought that ugly, over-priced thing would sell at all.

I heard that too about B9 and they are actually moving its manufacturing line on to outback due to its slow sales and using B9's platform for assembling Camrys while dropping Baja from this year at SOA, AL plant.

Coming to SVX reconsideration, I did mail to SOA sometime 2 years back and they said they would like to see svx back again, but it had to be considered at higher levels and it would take considerable amount of time and as for now they are not having any plans. If they ever did come up with, it should be more mechanically advanced while upgrading the luxury things as usual for todays market.

BTW isn't there anyone over here who works in SOA like either in NJ office or in AL plant??

Nah, man... the SVX was a dedicated platform (one thing that may eventually add value to the cars as collectibles). The STi's a snazzy Impreza.

I've always liked the mid-engine idea, too. And I'd still like to see them reprise the Brat as sort of an all-road 4WD sportster.

Yeah, that is true of all Alcyone's to date. Both the XT and SVX have been designed as a One Off platform. Sure they share some things with their cousins, but they couldn't be mistaken for them by a layman. You could never confuse a GL Sedan for an XT, or a Legacy for an SVX. But, if a STi passes out of the corner of your eye, can you be sure it wasn't just a WRX, or even a '95 1.8 liter???

it would be awsome if they did bring them back, but IMO they nerv will, subaru lost alot on the svx, they never sold well, over priced and too weird for the market at the time

maybe times have changed and people will open up to a radical new design from subaru

It just seemed like the STi shares the same rear 'haunches' as the SVX

That's like saying I have a mole in the same place as Scarlett Johanson.* A lot of cars have fenders flared in similar ways. If you want an example from the same period, crap, look at the R32, R33 and R34 Skylines.

* I do not.

One thing for sure is that they would have to offer it in a manual 5 or 6 speed!!!

Yea, IMHO the SVX failed... errr... din't sell very well was for that very reason. Had it came with a 5-speed the car probably could have doubled its sales figures

A manual tranny would be great. Maybe even add a sportronic or whatever transmission too. Another really radical idea is maybe Lamborghini doors. That would really shock the market and bring some of the money from the european sports car market. It is just an idea that might sell it as a concept at least. The luxury or near luxury coupe should keep it limited enough to be rare yet profitable for subaru. If not, build it by hand and that will really raise the price and still rare. The Buggati Veyron (the world's newest fastest production car) is handmade and everyone would like to have a piece of it by what the media says. Plus, I think handmade cars are to be proud of because it takes someone with good or great talent to make each one right and look good.
