Question EXACTLY how to remove side panels for rear speaker installation??

Hi there all.
I'm in the middle of a rear speaker installation (also to give access to the rear struts for renewal) and I can't budge the side panels in the back so that you can slide the rear speaker tray out. I've removed both screws top and bottom but the side panel will not budge. How exactly do you move this thing? Pull it directly outwards or upwards and out or what? It just won't move. Also is it easier with the rear seat back upright or folded down?

Thanks all

Matt

i always pulled the top half out with the back seat down and then you would have to put the seat back up to get the side panel out. and dont forget to disconnect the connector for the switch before you take it out completely.

i made the assumption that you took out the seat cushion first

Remove the lower seat cushion. The upper cushion helps a bit too. To remove the lower portion, pull on the two black tabs at the bottom of the seat and lift the cushion up. to remove the back part, fold it down, and lift up the two velcro flaps. Underneath are two 10mm bolts. Remove them and take out the rear seat back.
The rear panels are held in with two screw type plastic fittings. use a phillips head screwdriver to loosten the plastic screw, then lift the entire plastic thingymabob out of the hole. There are two of theese, one where the panel meets the floor (Would be hidden by the lower cushion) and one where the panel meets the area by the c pillar (Hidden by the seat top, though removable with the seats folded down)
This panel is now held on with only a few snap fittings. Pry the panel out, starting at the corner where it meets the door sill (You may or may not want to remove the doorsill. I reccomend working around it, as door sills tend to break easilly) Pry the panel out at the bottom, then lift it up off the window frame.Unplug the window switch and Viola! its out.
The rear deck is held on with two screws, which should now be visible with the rear panels off. unscrew them, and start pulling the panel up and out. You'll need to slide out the seatbelt guides and the rear wiper cover. Easy as cake

I've done this a few times. May wanna read up on this thread

Cool Rear deck removal

Hey guys good thread - just did that lot over Xmas in order to install the add-on the ionizer between the rear speakers, had to locate the electronics in the rear window area - there are acouple of posts with screws located in mine just waiting for the electronics to be fitted (boy those FHI guys think of everything!!)..

I also reverse engineered the ioniser circuit so now have diagram in PADS software showing connections & components etc.

email me if you are interested in the control circuit.

The power for the ioniser is Tee-ed (?) off the fan controller relay under dash - even the wiring colours match the aftermarket ionizer.....

regards

Steve (in NZ)
