Cool Advice buying first SVX....thanks!

Good morn, a new user here.
I moved back to the mountains, and, have been dreaming of an SVX (AWD)
Currently have a '90 Jeep Cherokee, and a '65 Corvair, which I will be selling / Trading to finance the SVX.

I found one down in SF, and am wondering if anyone has the ability to decode the VIN, as I can only decode Corvair VIN's at this time.

I'm really just worried about the tranny, the owner and I have exchanged emails, nothing more to this point.
3 owner car,
AWD,
********* White/Grey (edit from earlier).
Sunroof, 152,000K.

He claims the tranny probably is orig, not sure of the last service date. When in '92, (or later) did these trannys get some updates?

I'm just green, and anxious, since the car is only $2800, and may go fast.

Thanks for all the help, and I got a kick out of reading about the 9K junker.!

The VIN on this SVX is JF1CX3538NH106188

by the way, I bought a Carfax accnt, if you want one, send me a VIN, I'd be happy to get you the report, and forward it to you. Just being neighborly!

Thanks for the help!

Eric

Welcome, and good luck in your search. Find a solid SVX and you won't be disappointed.

Advice: Spend a few hours perusing the Technical Q&A here to get a sense of typical SVX problems and remedies.

This seems to be a valid 1992 LS-L VIN. All cars that year had gray interior (and the LS-L touring package had gray leather.)

What does "3 owner car, AWD, White/Tan. Sunroof, 152,000K" refer to? It should say white/gray.

Just my 2 cents, but you can always pay a local Subaru dealer near the cars location to do a thorough check up and ask them to pay extra attention to wheel bearings, transmission, and anything else. This way you can save yourself the trip and extra worry if there are any problems. Good luck.

Welcome. Genoa is one of my favorite little towns in the USA. There is a laid back feeling there that makes you feel like you belong. Friendly people who seemingly never met a stranger. Until fifteen years ago it was little known to folks outside the immediate area & there probably weren't over 100 full-time residents. For grins I used to cut through Genoa and take the back roads to Lake Tahoe via Kingsbury Grade, a breathtaking drive. Hope you get an SVX because it would be a perfect car for the challenging roads in your area.
Best Wishes,
Preston
