Getting past 120 is a different story. Takes the pedal being to the floor and a lot of room to get from 120 to 130.

According to my guage with a mostly stock car and new stock size tires I hit 125 easy enough, but hitting 130+ while floored took a good 40 seconds (just a guess). I felt as though the car would top at a reasonable 137mph. I will say that the car wasn't running too well at the time, as I saw several cracks and voltage leak burns on 2 coil packs while doing the plugs earlier that day. Still I don't see the top speed as such a big of a deal compared to how quiet the car was over 100 mph. Now I just wished the car would hit 1mph! (stupid stuff that breaks)

Couple things... are people forgetting the apparent speed limiter in the 94+ models? (dunno about 93).

Also the way I knew my SHO was about to blow the transmission was its top speed with alot more power than stock at the enigne, couldn't quite crack the same MPH as the stock one. Sure enough a sun gear blew in the POS AAMCO rebuild shortly after. apparently been rubbing on stuff it shouldn't have since rebuilt.

92-93 have no speed limiters and I have had mine up to 150 so far. I know when I get my first post 92 SVX I'll be swapping the ECU or popping in a chip.

Hmm....
Red Rocket- FWD-had it at 130,wasnt pulling much more
DeeDee- AWD-115, seems very sluggish after 100, may need some matinence
Harper-4.11 AWD- Ive grown up a bit, and havent had it over 100, though it sure gets there FAST. mabey some day in the future it'll top it out, but Ill wait for a racetrack to do it

As for theretical top speeds and the numbers talk and stuff..its very intresting. I wonder if the top speed of the svx is comparible to that of the wrx, given they were to both have the smae 5 speed. The stock WRX surely makes more power, and likely at a higher rpm, but the svx is much slipperyer...Just how much horsepower is our drag coeficant worth at speeds over 125 MPH?

drag and raw power are king over 100mph. The WRX isn't bad, but it does have a higher Cd, and a bit more frontal area I believe. Whats really interesting IMO is that the WRX speedo actualy pegs at 140 or so. Its very interesting seeing the speedo not move and the tach wandering around as it goes up and down hills. BTW its a little exciting doing 155 down a hill in one not setup quite right as my old WRX wagon was er.. at full droop in the front end down the hill. Sadly the F575 I was following at the time backed off when he found a dip, + corner = all 4 corners on the bumpstops in said 575. Thus letting the M3 riding its 155mph limiter hard to safely pass us, and take the lead.

I think the SVX suffers alot from the very tall gearing. Even worse is when the torque converter unlocks, thats like throwing HP out the window. Moves the rpms up which is good, throws power out the window in the form of heat in the transmission fluid which is bad.

How does that compare to silverspear's 350Z?

And how worth it is it to get ECU and TCU tuning units? I'm not sure my 1996 is even compatible with the units that most people are using on the ECU. And I don't want to do any drastic mods for high horsepower. I value longevity and reliability over speed these days. I will take more HPs if they won't overly stress the car or cost me an arm.

My impression is that both units need to be upgraded to overcome the speed governing rev limit. That's would be nice information for those that plan to go over the limited speed. For me, I would just like the upgrades that reduce stress on the tranny, improve my gas mileage and click on the ATF temp warning light at a lower temperature.
