Most Miles on a Tranny

I better start out by knocking on wood.

What's the record in miles for an original tranny? Mine has 159k on it. Actually more than that considering the speedo gear was out when I bought it. Still running smooth, and the dealership said it looked good inside there when they changed out the speedo gear set.

Scares the bejeelies out of me.... but just smooth as silk.

173k and 300k. That makes me feel alot better!

My 94FWD went out at 59k. But then it was in severe heat since inception, and owned by some rich kid for 20k miles before I bought it. I can just imagine how it was driven.

The dealership sales guy said mine had recently been overhauled, but he couldn't substantiate that claim with documentation. Whatever; the bell housing number matches the dataplate, so it hasn't been swapped-out as a unit. A "campaign" ATF filter was in place and looked to have been there for awhile. Had a leisurely 2-3 shift from day one when stone cold (zero RPM flare) but 30,000 miles later otherwise performs flawlessly. Shifts with good bite under power.

Rebuilt or not, I'm encouraged by these hi-mile reports.

Good point! I didn't know there was a FWD/AWD option when I bought it. It was more of... wow! Nice stereo system! (1995 mentality) I didn't have a clue. But the dealership REALLY was shoving that car down my throat.

I'm glad they did.

120k and it still catches 2nd pretty hard. Just have to make sure the car warms up on a clod day, otherwise it likes to stay in first for a few seconds... not sure the deal with that but i think i read somewhere here that the trans has to warm up before it will shift.... hopefully thats the case... So Im proud to say 120,700 on mine... 2,000 put on it by me in a month of owning it Im good to her but sometimes I like to catch a windy road for some spirited country driving. I dont abuse her with alot of WOT but I do love to put her into a tight apex in a turn.

It won't shift to 4th until the fluid reaches 50 degrees. Took about half a mile for mine this morning from a cold start with the ambient temp at 18.

My old car was close to 200k and on the origional tranny and motor. My old car's tranny was abused too. Lotta manual shifting and what not. The bands needed adjustment and also needed the Duty Solenoid C, but other than that, no problems until 198k.
